Priv-War

Priv-War was a collaborative project by seven European academic institutions, including the University of Sheffield in the UK, which ran from 2008 to 2011. It was coordinated and hosted by the European University Institute in Italy. The aim of Priv-War was to look at the use of private military companies and security companies in situations of armed conflict and examine national and international regulatory frameworks. The website provides the final recommendations of the Priv-War project, together with press releases and two reports produced during the project.

Center for Transnational Litigation and Commercial Law

The Center for Transnational Litigation and Commercial Law is a centre of the New York University School of Law established to "advance the study and practice of international business transactions and the way to solve related disputes either through litigation or arbitration". The site has profiles of faculty and staff and details of courses and events hosted by the Center. Publications of the Center cover the following topics: private international law, international commercial law, international commercial arbitration and transnational civil litigation.

National Sea Grant Law Center

Website of the National Sea Grant Law Center (SGLC) a United States research body founded in 2002 and based at the University of Mississippi. The Center "conducts research on marine laws and policies, coordinates ocean and coastal law researchers, and disseminates information to coastal and ocean policy-makers". Sea Grant is a partnership between the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and universities that work with coastal communities conducting research, education, outreach and technology transfer.

Avon Global Center for Women and Justice at Cornell Law School

Website of the Avon Global Center for Women and Justice at Cornell Law School in the US. The Center works with legal professionals and governmental and non-governmental organisations to improve access to justice for victims of gender-based violence. Its work includes providing legal research assistance to judges, undertaking project work, providing online legal resources and hosting conferences and events.

Early English Laws

The Early English Laws project has undertaken to produce new editions and translations of all English law codes, edicts and treatises up to the year 1215, and to publish them on this website and in print. Numerous new editions are already available on the Laws page, together with digitized versions of the original source manuscripts. It is possible to view corresponding pages of the manuscripts and edited texts side-by-side, and scholars may add their comments online. The Reference page provides a set of essays, a bibliography and a glossary.

Australian Human Rights Centre (on AustLII)

This section of the AustLII (Australasian Legal Information Institute) website provides information about the Australian Human Rights Centre (AHRCentre), an inter-disciplinary research and teaching institute based at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). The Centre is engaged in research and teaching on Australian and international human rights law and publishes the Australian Journal of Human Rights and the Human Rights Defender.

Centre for Criminology

Website of the Centre of Criminology, a research unit linked to the Department of Public Law at the University of Cape Town. Research at the Centre is focused on African Security and Justice with the two main programmes of work being Physical Security and Environmental Security. The site gives information on the various research projects taking place at the Centre which cover plural policing, urban security and policing and human rights.

Judicial Performance Evaluation

The Judicial Performance Evaluation Initiative is a project of the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System (IAALS) a national research body based at the University of Denver. The purpose of judicial performance evaluation (JPE) is to help "increase public confidence and assist judges in identifying areas of professional development". This site gives an overview of all state JPE programmes using a clickable map and there are links to states with official JPE programs.

Satellites and Law

Satellites and Law is a research programme based at the Centre for Law and the Environment at University College London. The programme deals with issues surrounding the use of satellites for monitoring and enforcing environmental laws. The site has information on research projects taking place looking at the use of satellites in legal systems, privacy issues in using satellite imagery in courts and national and international experience of using satellite imagery as a legal monitoring and compliance tool.

Information Law Institute (ILI)

Website of the New York Law School's Information Law Institute which focuses on law, technology and civil liberties. The site has details of courses, events and people involved with the Institute. There are also details of research projects being undertaken at the Institute such as the IProgress Project the aim of which is to improve "intellectual property law and policy through research initiatives focused on law and regulatory reform, software innovation, and legal education".
