African Online Library on Law and Governance

Large free collection of African law materials, including constitutions, legislation, treaties, court decisions, journal articles and some books, together with a news service and networking opportunities. Registration is required, but there is no charge. The Library can be browsed by country, organisation, or journal title, and there are simple and advanced search facilities. For each country, there is a brief description of the legal system, a list of intergovernmental organisations in which it participates and other information.

China Guiding Cases Project

Collection of ‘guiding cases’ decided by the Supreme People’s Court of China, translated into English and made available by the China Guiding Cases Project (CGCP) at Stanford Law School in the US. Guiding cases are decisions that have been designated as leading cases, under a procedure introduced in 2010. The website also includes expert commentary on the cases. The Law Summaries page has outlines of the Chinese law of contract, intellectual property, labour and the environment/natural resources with links to translated laws on these subjects. The website is in English and Chinese.

Judicial Yuan of the Republic of China: Law and Regulations Retrieving System

This website provides English translations of the rulings (‘Interpretations’) of the constitutional court, the Council of Grand Justices of the Republic of China / Taiwan. Interpretations are available from 1949 onwards; they are provided by the Taiwanese judicial authority, or Judicial Yuan. The website also has a database of translated laws from about 1990 onwards. 

Tax and Chancery (Upper Tribunal)

The Upper Tribunal (Tax and Chancery Chamber) helps those who are involved in or want to appeal against decisions made by the First-tier tribunal in tax or Charity cases, as well as people who want to refer matters relating to certain decisions made by the Financial Services Authority and the Pensions Regulator. This section of the Gov.uk website includes guidance, links to procedural rules, practice decisions and a database of previous decisions.

Legimonaco

Official law website for the Principality of Monaco, provided by the Ministère d’Etat. The legislation section comprises the Monaco Constitution; the Civil Code, Penal Code, Commercial Code and other codes; it also has individual laws from 1920 onwards. Draft laws and recently passed laws are provided under the heading “Actualité législative”.

AbyssiniaLaw

Portal providing open access to primary and secondary legal materials for Ethiopia, including laws, court decisions, articles, contact guidance and news. The service gives free access to selected codes and laws, some in English, some in Amharic. It also provides decisions of the Supreme Court of Cassation, in Amharic only, and the Constitution (and related instruments) in English and Amharic.

Société Québécoise d'Information Juridique

The Société Québécoise d'Information Juridique, SOQUIJ, produces a range of priced publications and products aimed at law schools and the legal profession. But its website also includes content freely available to everyone, “services aux citoyens” and “ressources pour tous”. Court decisions from the Cour du Québec and from other Quebec courts and tribunals are online, as well as decisions of the Supreme Court of Canada and federal courts. Decisions date from 2000 mainly, and are mostly in French with some decisions translated into English.
