The Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights is an independent institution within the Council of Europe. Its website provides information on the Commissioner's work, including articles, reports, speeches and press releases. The reports include annual surveys of human rights law and legislation in the Council of Europe area, observation reports from individual nations and thematic reports on topics such as the protection of human rights for the Roma, minority ethnic group rights, protection of the rights of children and women and actions against human trafficking.

EUROCONTROL

EUROCONTROL, the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation, is an intergovernmental organisation with more than 40 member states. Its website gives an overview of the organisation's role in Europe's air traffic management and safety strategies, covering both civil and military operations.

EU Bookshop

EU Bookshop is run by the Office for Official Publications of the European Union (also known as the Publications Office). It provides free access to the full text of all EU official publications issued since 1952. This includes all reports, documents and yearbooks from the key EU institutions and Agencies, covering all aspects of EU domestic and foreign policy, including issues relating to the EURO, EU accession and enlargement, legislation and political reports. Global Competition Law Centre

The Global Competition Law Centre (GCLC) is a research centre at the College of Europe in Belgium. Its aim is to analyse EU competition policy and to provide a discussion forum for academics and practitioners in the field. The site gives background information about the GCLC and its work, including conferences and other events. GCLC working papers are on the site in full text from 2004 onwards and presentations and papers are available from many past events.

Avocats Sans Frontières

Avocats Sans Frontières (ASF) is a Belgium-based international NGO. Its membership mostly consists of lawyers and its aim is to promote justice and the rule of law, and to defend the civil, political and other rights of the most vulnerable people in the world. The group's "Lawyers for Lawyers" project aims to support human rights lawyers whose professional independence is under threat. Press releases, a free newsletter, activity reports and other publications are available on the website, plus details of ASF seminars and training. The site can be viewed in English, French or Dutch.

Legal Service of the European Commission

The Legal Service of the European Commission is the in-house legal adviser to the Commission. Its functions include drafting legislation and representing the Commission in the courts. The Legal Service is also responsible for coordinating the official codification of Community legislation. The website gives background information about the role and structure of the Legal Service, including an organisation chart and links to official documents and related organisations. It is available in English, French and German.

Justice and Home Affairs Council

The Justice and Home Affairs Council (JHA) brings together justice and interior ministers from the EU member states to make collective decisions on justice and home affairs policy; it is one of the configurations of the Council of the European Union. Directorate General for the Environment

Website of the European Commission's Directorate-General for the Environment. The Directorate's main role is to develop and monitor the EU's environment policy. The Policies and Resources sections provide a large amount of information and documentation concerning the work of the D-G, in areas including climate change, land use, nature and biodiversity, sustainable development, waste and water. Materials provided include legislation, reports, conference papers, newsletters, speeches and statistics.

Summaries of EU legislation

This section of the EU's Europa portal provides summaries of EU legislation in all policy areas. The information is arranged by subject, including agriculture, competition, employment and social policy, human rights, the internal market, regional policy and transport; these subjects are further sub-divided by specific area of law. Each section has an introduction to the policy, an outline of the legislation, details of relevant policy documents and information about future developments. Links are provided to the legal texts and official documents mentioned.
