European Commission: Migration and Home Affairs

Website of the Directorate-General of the European Commission dealing with migration and home affairs which includes EU migration, asylum policy and EU security. The site has information on EU policies covering issues such as migration, asylum, Schengen and borders, organised crime, trafficking and police cooperation. There is also information about the EU agencies concerned with these issues and links to their websites eg. FRONTEX: EU external borders agency and Europol: The European Police Office and networks such as the European Migration Network (EMN).

European Database of Asylum Law

The European Database of Asylum Law (EDAL) is maintained by the European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE) and provides access to case law from 19 EU Member States interpreting refugee and asylum law as well as cases from the European Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights. The database can be searched by keyword and filtered by date, country of applicate, country of decision or case type. Cases are provided as summaries with full text where available.

Asylum Information Database

The Asylum Information Database (AIDA) is compiled by the European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE) and contains information on asylum issues in 20 countries (17 EU countries and 3 non-EU countries). There are country reports detailing asylum procedures, reception conditions and detention of asylum seekers in countries covered by the database. There are also comparative reports which analyse practice relating to the implementation of asylum standards in these countries and AIDA Legal Briefings which address key issues in EU asylum law and policy.

European Commission Directorate General for Justice and Consumers: Combatting Discrimination

This section of the European Commission’s Justice website provides information on the EU’s work tackling discrimination on the grounds of racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation and sex. This is done through raising awareness, supporting other bodies to combat discrimination, providing training and development of equality policies. Links are given to EU documents and initiatives dealing with work in this area and to work by the European network of legal experts in gender equality and non-discrimination.

Academic Network for Legal Studies in Immigration and Asylum in Europe (Odysseus Network)

The Odysseus Network conducts comparative academic research into the immigration and asylum law of the EU and its member states. It was set up with the financial support of the European Commission's Odysseus programme and is based at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. The website describes the work of the Network and provides the contents pages of its publications, or links to the full text. Information is also given about its summer schools, and all the Network’s annual reports are available in full. English and French versions of the site are available.

Belgian Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation

The Belgian Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation website provides access to official information about the foreign, trade and development policy of Belgium. The News section covers departmental news, press releases and speech transcripts from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister for Development Cooperation. The Services section gives advice to individuals travelling to Belgium and to Belgians abroad and provides links to Belgian embassies and consulates.

Belgian Science Policy (BELSPO)

This website from the Belgian Federal Science Policy Office provides information on Belgian federal science policy, including overviews of current research programmes, details of international and bilateral co-operation and coordination in the field and upcoming conferences and symposia. Air and space policy and law is covered in some detail. The site gives an overview of Belgian space law and provides links to the English text of the Law on the Activities of Launching, Flight Operation or Guidance of Space Objects (2005) and also of the Royal Implementing Decree (2008).

Portal Belgian Government

The official web portal to online information and services provided by Belgian public authorities. The portal is arranged thematically allowing you to browse to the subject you are interested in and follow the link to the relevant government website or official document for further information. The portal also provides a search engine that searches across all official Belgian websites. There is a news section that brings together the latest news from all the public authorities.

European Council on Refugees and Exiles

The European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE) is an alliance of European NGOs which help refugees. Its website describes the work of the ECRE, including training courses that it runs, and lists its member organisations. An overview of the situation for refugees in the EU is also provided. The Topics pages have ECRE policy papers, articles and news items regarding access to Europe, resettlement, protection in Europe and third countries, integration and returns. There is also a weekly news bulletin, available from the home page.

Taxation and Customs Union

The website of the European Commission’s Taxation and Customs Union Directorate-General provides information on the Commission’s work on taxation and the customs union, with the ‘What’s new?’ section detailing recent developments. Links are provided to taxation and customs legislation adopted since 2003 as well as proposals tabled by the Commission, all of which are downloadable in PDF format. Catalogues of case law on direct and indirect taxation are also available in PDF, although some of these are only available in French.
