International Law Association

Website of the International Law Association (ILA), an organization which was established in 1873 to study international law and promote its development. Its work includes the drafting of rules and treaties and the production of commissioned reports. The site presents information about the Association, its history, officers and current activities. Issues of the ILA Newsletter are also available, and the committee pages include conference reports and resolutions.

New York State Bar Association

The New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) represents lawyers in New York State and publishes a variety of documents and information on this site for its members and for the public. The site has organisational information including details of committees and sections such as environmental law, business law and criminal law. Services for the public include lawyer referral, information on legal aid (pro bono), and steps to take if you have a grievance with your attorney and a selection of free pamphlets to download providing brief overviews of aspects of New York State law.

International Organization of Securities Commissions

Website of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), which oversees the supervision of financial services industries around the world. The site describes the structure of the organization and its work and makes available IOSCO policy documents, press releases, speeches, annual reports and other materials. It also provides a directory of national authorities which are members of IOSCO.

Lex Africa

Website for Lex Africa, a network of selected leading law firms throughout the countries of Africa. The site is hosted by Werksmans Attorneys in Johannesburg, South Africa. Each firm listed has information in HTML format about its staff, contact details, main areas of practice, and a guide to doing business in that particular country. Links are provided to other African business and trade sites.

Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering

Website of the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (FATF), the intergovernmental body aiming to promote policies to combat money laundering at both national and international levels. The site describes the function and current work of the task force with an overview and explanation of money laundering issues. There is organisational and membership information about FATF along with FATF's 40 recommendations of counter-measures against money laundering and related documentation. There is an online newsletter and a page of related web links.

American Association of Law Libraries

Website of the professional association for US law libraries and legal information specialists. AALL was founded in 1906 "to promote and enhance the value of law libraries to the legal and public communities, to foster the profession of law librarianship, and to provide leadership in the field of legal information." The site provides information about the work of the Association covering policy, publications, products and professional development services. A What's New section, collection of Press Releases and recent announcements are included.

New England Law Library Consortium

Website for the New England Law Library Consortium, a co-operative association of law schools, and law libraries. The site gives a history of NELLCO, outlining the Consortium's aims, administration and programme of co-operative initiatives in the field of information sharing, networking and innovation in information technology. A list of participating members of the Consortium with links to their individual libraries is available. The NELLCO Legal Scholarship Repository provides free access to working papers, reports, lecture series and workshop presentations of NELLCO members.

Notaries Society

Website of the Notaries Society, the professional body founded in 1882 to represent notaries practising in England and Wales, outside London. The site provides information for members of the profession and the general public on the role of the notary and details of how to qualify. A contact directory assists with finding a notary. Parts of the site are restricted to members only.

West Coast Environmental Law

Website of West Coast Environmental Law (WCEL), an environmental law and advocacy organisation based in British Columbia, Canada. The site provides information on WCEL's issues and programs including details of publications, news, campaign updates and links under these headings: climate change; environmental deregulation; water; forestry; oil, gas and mining; toxics and urban growth and development. The site offers an online library catalogue, newsletters and annual reports. WCEL publications can be downloaded in full.
