European Parliament: Supporting Analyses

This part of the European Parliament's website provides a searchable database of research produced by European Parliament departments. All aspects of the work of the European Parliament are covered, including legal affairs, constitutional affairs, agriculture, the economy, human rights, the environment, international trade and freedom security and justice. In addition to the database itself, there is a subject catalogue of the documents it contains, providing brief details but not the full text.

Constitution of the Republic of Iceland

English version of the Constitution of Iceland provided by the Government Offices of Iceland. The Constitution covers the role and function of the President, the State Council, Althingi (the Icelandic Parliament) and the judiciary. There are also sections dealing with the electoral system, the role of the Evangelical Lutheran Church (state church) and the rights, freedoms and obligations of citizens. This version contains amendments made up to June 1999.

Scottish Law Commission Reports

A BAILII database carrying reports published by the Scottish Law Commission. Reports are available from 1989 onwards and are presented in HTML format. The reports are listed alphabetically by title and chronologically by year. Recent topics covered include damages for wrongful death, personal injury actions and crown appeals. BAILII is a free, collaborative service aiming to provide public access to primary legal materials for the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. The service has been developed through cooperation between AustLII and parties in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Scottish Law Commission Discussion Papers

A BAILII database providing access to discussion papers published by the Scottish Law Commission. The service carries papers in HTML format from 1993 onwards. Papers are listed alphabetically by title and chronologically by year. Recent topics covered include double jeopardy, unincorporated associations abd crown appeals. BAILII is a free collaborative service offering public access to primary legal materials for the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. BAILII has been developed through cooperation between AustLII and parties in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Constitution of South Africa

Full-text online version of the South African Constitution made freely available in English on the South African Government Information website. The Constitution was adopted in 1996 and covers co-operative government, parliament, the President and National Executive, the provinces, local government, the courts and administration of justice, public administration, security services and a Bill of Rights. The site includes amendments to the Constitution and links to earlier versions of the Constitution.

Constitution of Madagascar

This site contains the full-text of the 1992 Madagascar Constitution made freely available in English by International Constitutional Law (ICL) at the University of Bern in Switzerland. The Constitution covers liberties, rights and duties, the structure of the state, executive power, the legislature, the judiciary and local government. Background and historical notes to the Constitution are given along with details of the 1995 amendments which have not yet been incorporated into the text.

Constitution of Iraq

This site contains the full-text of the Interim Constitution of Iraq (the Transitional Administrative Law) which is made freely available in English by International Constitutional Law (ICL) at the University of Bern in Switzerland. The Constitution is in effect until a permanent Constitution is adopted in 2005. The site also provides background and historical notes, access to the 1990 Interim Constitution and the draft Constitution written by opposition groups in 1999.

Constitution of Latvia

English text of the Constitution of Latvia, as amended to 2003, on the website of the International Constitutional Law (ICL) project at the University of Bern, Switzerland. The Constitution covers the Parliament, the President, the Government, the courts, the Office of the Comptroller General and fundamental human rights. Various other constitutional documents can be found on the same site. There are also links to the Latvian Parliament website and to a French-language website providing the Constitution, Latvian treaties and related materials.

Human Rights and Democracy reports

This site provides access to all the Human Rights and Democracy annual reports published by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 1998 onwards. They provide detailed information on the strategy and actions of the British government in promoting human rights abroad. They also include comments on FCO activity by the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Select Comittee and key NGO bodies.

Draft EU Convention: Full documentation Vols I & II and explanatory reports on amendments

Text of the Convention on the Future of Europe's ultimately unsuccessful European Union constitutional treaty, with related documents, on the website of Statewatch, an organisation devoted to investigative journalism and critical research in Europe in the fields of the state, justice and home affairs, civil liberties, accountability and openness. The site provides the text of the draft treaty, explanatory notes and details of amendments. In addition there are critiques and commentary from Statewatch. The site is in English.
