Corporate Affairs and Intellectual Property Office Legislation

This web page provides a list of the legislation administered by the Barbados Corporate Affairs and Intellectual Property Office (CAIPO). CAIPO is the government department with responsibility for the registration and incorporation of companies and the registration of patents, trade marks, industrial designs and other intellectual property rights. Legislation is grouped under the following headings: general; corporate affairs; intellectual property and conventions. There is a summary of each law and some of these have a link to the full text.

Amsterdam Law Forum

The Amsterdam Law Forum is an open access journal produced by the Law Faculty at VU University in Amsterdam. The journal is published quarterly and contains articles on contemporary international, European and comparative law, scientific papers and book reviews.

Sveriges advokatsamfund

Website of the Swedish Bar Association, the organisation representing Sweden's practising lawyers. The site provides an article giving background information on the legal profession in Sweden and the role and functions of the Bar Association. Rules and regulations governing lawyers can be downloaded from the site including the Charter of the Swedish Bar Association, the Code of Conduct and the Code of Conduct for European Lawyers. A directory of members can be searched by name, firm, location, language and area of law and there is guidance on making a complaint against a member.

An introduction to the legal structure of Tokelau:a collection of primary materials, commentary, and online resources

Online guide explaining the laws and legal system of Tokelau in the South Pacific, a self-administering territory of New Zealand. The guide is by Peter Murgatroyd, Law Librarian at the Emalus Campus Library at the University of the South Pacific. It gives an introduction to Tokelau, information on sources of law and links to Tokelau legislation. There is an outline of the governmental system and government institutions along with details of the relationship Tokelau has with New Zealand.

Constitution of Tonga

Full text online version of the 1875 Constitution of Tonga (amended up to 1988) made freely available on PacLII the Pacific Islands Legal Information Institute website. The Constitution is presented in HTML and has sections dealing with rights and freedoms, the form of government and government institutions including the Privy Council, Legislative Assembly, Cabinet and the Judiciary. There is also a section dealing with land and the laws of succession. PacLII is a joint initiative involving the University of the South Pacific and the Australasian Legal Information Institute.

Pacific Legal Gateway

The Pacific Legal Gateway is a PacLII project providing access to Pacific legal research. There are links given to PacLII resources via a jurisdiction list and a clickable map. A page of annotated web links provides access to other legal research resources focusing on the Pacific Islands including governmental sites, research guides and news sources. There is also a help page and a selection of FAQs. PacLII is managed as a joint operation between the University of the South Pacific, School of Law, and by the Australasian Legal Information Institute (AustLII):

Public Safety Canada

Website of Public Safety Canada the government department with responsibility for national security, emergency management, law enforcement, corrections, crime prevention and borders and all aspects of public safety in Canada. The work of the department is outlined on the site under the following headings: emergency management; national security; crime prevention; law enforcement policy and corrections policy. These sections are broken down into further subject areas and links are given to relevant legislation, guidance and official publications.

How to read a legal opinion: a guide for new law students

Electronic article providing guidance on reading legal opinions written by Orin S. Kerr who is a Professor of Law at the George Washington University Law School. The article was published in the Green Bag: an Entertaining Journal of Law in Autumn 2007 and is aimed at new law students in the United States. There are sections explaining what a judicial opinion is and looking at the caption, the case citation, who wrote the opinion, the facts of the case, the law of the case, concurring or dissenting opinions, common legal terms and types of disputes.

Forced Migration Guide

Online guide to the information resources and research literature of forced migration written by Elisa Mason who is an independent information specialist who focuses on forced migration issues. It is intended to provide students and researchers with a solid introduction to the main research tools and resources available for the academic study of forced migration. This includes coverage of refugees, internal displacement and human trafficking.
