American Society of International Law

Website of the American Society of International Law (ASIL) a not for profit, educational organisation established in 1906. ASIL's members include lawyers, academics, corporate counsel, judges and representatives of governments and nongovernmental organisations. ASIL is concerned with a broad range of international law topics including human rights and humanitarian law, trade and investment, development, women and international law and international institutions. The site provides access to publications, events and research tools covering these subject areas.

Nanotechnology: what is it and why do law librarians need to know about it?

Online guide to the legal aspects of nanotechnology written by Scott Russell who is Reference Librarian at Shook, Hardy & Bacon L.L.P. in Missouri in the United States. The guide was published in November 2008 on LLRX.com. The author gives an introduction to nanotechnology and links to articles about its use. There are also links to studies dealing with the risks associated with nanotechnology, which could lead to litigation, and to related intellectual property issues.

Global Database on the Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement

Website of the Global Database on the Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement, a Joint project between the Brookings-Bern Project on Internal Displacement and the Institute for the Study of International Migration in the United States. The site provides FAQs and background on internal displacement, historical information on the Guiding Principles and legal annotations to the Guiding Principles. The full text of the Guiding Principles can be viewed online in PDF.

Abuse Law

The Abuse Law website is a micro site of Abney Garsden McDonald Solicitors, a specialised child abuse compensation law firm in Cheshire. The site provides information aimed at child and adult survivors of physical, sexual and psychological abuse and professionals working for survivors of abuse. There is guidance, in the form of FAQs, on civil and criminal court procedure and on being a witness in court. There is guidance to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme and information on the Human Rights Act and legal aid.

Open Access Scottish Law Reports

Website providing access to an archive of important Scottish session cases made freely available online by the Scottish Council of Law Reporting (SCLR). The archive contains cases from 1873 to 2007 and is being run using the Justis search interface. Reports can be searched by keyword or browsed by date and contain the case name, citation, court, judges and opinion. The SCLR is a non-profit company made up of Scottish judges, advocates and solicitors whose purpose is to manage the publication of its Session Cases law report series and other materials.

Ugandan Legal Information Institute

The Ugandan Legal Information Institute (ULII) is being developed by the Ugandan Law Reporting Committee and the South African Legal Information Institute (Saflii) with the aim of providing access to freely available legal information from Uganda. ULII is currently being hosted on the Saflii website. Databases on the site provide full text access to cases from the Supreme Court, Constitutional Court, Court of Appeal, High Court and Commercial Court along with the consolidated Laws of Uganda.

Republic of Uganda Judiciary

Official website of the Ugandan Judiciary. The site provides background information on the roles and functions of the Judiciary and gives an outline of its structure. There is information on the Ugandan courts including cause lists and profiles of judges. The site also links to sources of Ugandan judgements and to other Ugandan legal resources.

Uganda Law Reform Commission

Website of the Uganda Law Reform Commission (ULRC) a body established in 1990 by the Uganda Law Reform Commission Act. The site provides information on the composition, powers and functions of the ULRC. Study reports of the ULRC can be downloaded from the site in PDF. These focus on a range of commercial and criminal projects dealing with competition law, consumer protection, insolvency law, companies, sale of goods and services and intellectual property. A full text copy of the Constitution of Uganda is also available to download from the site.

Arbitral Women

Website of Arbitral Women, a membership organisation for women working in arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. Members are based in over 30 countries. Contact details and profiles of members are available in an online directory which can be searched or browsed. The "Find a Practitioner" facility enables users to search for members using more detailed criteria including practice area, type of practitioner, country of residence, language etc.

Constitution of Spain

English-language version of the Spanish Constitution, on the website of the Spanish Senate. The Constitution was adopted in 1978 and has sections dealing with fundamental rights and duties, the role of the Crown, the Cortes Generales, the Government and the Judiciary. There are also chapters covering the economy and finance, organisation of the state and the Constitutional Court.
