Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System

Website of the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System (IAALS) a national research body based at the University of Denver. IAALS research is focused on the US civil justice system covering the following areas: civil justice reform; civil case management; judicial selection; judicial performance evaluation; judicial independence and domestic relations. IAALS reports are made freely available on the site to download in full text. However free registration is required before users can download the publications.

Australian Network for Japanese Law

The Australian Network for Japanese Law is maintained by the College of Law at the Australian National University, the Faculty of Law at Bond University and the Faculty of Law at the University of Sydney. Membership is not required to view the site, but is free and offers notifications of upcoming events and conferences. Aside from lists of events, courses and publications, the site also provides some full-text and abstracted articles (from the Journal of Japanese Law) and research papers.

Federal Judicial Center

The Federal Judicial Center (FJC) is the education and research agency for the US federal courts. The site provides access to research on the federal courts and a selection of educational materials produced for judges and court employees. There is a catalogue of publications and videos produced by the FJC providing bibliographic records for each item. Some of the materials are made available in full text on the site. A section of the site gives information about the FJC's work with judges and court officials of other countries.

Organized Crime Research

Website focusing on organised crime in the United States and Germany produced by Klaus von Lampe who is assistant professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York. The site includes definitions of the term "organised crime" from the United States and other countries from around the world. Details of books, articles, reports and presentations by the author, many of which are made freely available in full text, can be downloaded from the site. There are reviews of books on organised crime and an annotated list of links to related sites.

Scottish Association for the Study of Offending

Website of the Scottish Association for the Study of Offending (SASO) a forum for "professional groups and individuals concerned with the issues raised by offending in Scotland". The site provides organisational details of the SASO Council, branches throughout Scotland, local conferences and membership information. There are full text (PDF) copies of the Associationãs journal the Scottish Journal of Criminal Justice Studies made freely available online back to 2003.

Scottish Children's Reporter Administration

Website of the Scottish Children's Reporter Administration (SCRA) the body with responsibility for facilitating the work of the Children's Reporters and providing accommodation for Children's Hearings. Children's Hearings are distinct to Scotland and deal with both young offenders and children in need of care and protection. The site provides history, background and organisational information about the SCRA. There is information on the Children's Hearings System covering procedure and decision making.

A Primer on the Jurisdiction of the U.S. Courts of Appeals

Full text copy of "A Primer on the Jurisdiction of the U.S. Courts of Appeals" written by Thomas E. Baker of the Florida International University, College of Law and made freely available online by the Federal Judicial Center, an education and research agency for the federal courts in the United States. The primer was published in 2009 (and updated in 2023) and provides an "introduction to the complexity and nuance in the subject-matter jurisdiction of the U.S. Courts of Appeals".

Lexpert

Lexpert is a Thomson Carswell company based in Canada. Their website provides access to a range of journals and directories relating to the business of law. Publications include the Lexpert Magazine which focuses on legal business issues. This subscription journal has free extracts from articles available on the site. The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory is a directory of Canadian lawyers and law firms freely searchable on the site. The Lexpert US Guide offers full text articles and profiles of cross border lawyers.

International Association of Genocide Scholars

Website of the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) an interdisciplinary, research organisation whose central aim is to "draw academics, activists, artists, genocide survivors, journalists, jurists, public policy makers, and other colleagues into the interdisciplinary study of genocide, with the goal of prevention." The site has details of conferences and other events and a downloadable newsletter. There is information on the IAGS journal, Genocide Studies and Prevention, and other books and publications on genocide.
