European Scrutiny Committee

The European Scrutiny Committee is a permanent cross-party committee of the House of Commons. It assess draft EU legislation which has been deposited in Parliament by the Government. Its website makes available the Committee's reports from November 1996 to date, minutes from November 2009 to date, ministerial correspondence with the Committee, background papers and details of inquiries by the Committee. There is also a guide to the European scrutiny system and a guide to the EU institutions and EU legislation.

The rightsnet website is designed to provide up to date welfare rights information and news for advice workers. It is managed by lasa (London Advice Services Alliance) [q.v.]. The site provides a news section, training, policy news, an email discussion group and summaries of the latest welfare benefit and tax credit case law from the Administrative Appeals Chamber of the Upper Tribunal for subscribers.The Toolkit facility of the site provides links to sites offering legislation, case law, current benefit rates and factsheets.

Centre for Public Legal Education Alberta

The Centre for Public Legal Education Alberta (CPLEA) is an electronic service that brings together people, information and educational resources on Canadian justice and legal issues. It is available in English and French, with a special section for Alberta. The site has links to official sources of Canadian legislative materials including statutes, bills and case law. It also offers a resource centre including educational materials for the classroom and access to legal newspapers, and other reference and publicly available information.

House of Commons Weekly Information Bulletin

The House of Commons Weekly Information Bulletin was produced b the UK Parliament until July 2011. It provided information on the recent and forthcoming business of the lower chamber, the House of Commons; it also included some coverage of the activities of the House of Lords.The Bulletin is divided into sub-sections which include a list of public and private bills before parliament, information on the progress of individual bills, information on the meetings of Standing and Select Committees, the present state of the parties in Parliament and a listing of EU documents received.

European Investment Bank (EIB)

The European Investment Bank is the official body which finances capital investment in the EU and seeks to promote European Union economic policy. Its activities include: fostering economic development of the poorer European regions, financing urban renewal projects and promoting competitiveness of industry. The EIB website contains the full-text of the statute which sets out its role, it also includes its most recent annual report, press releases and other publications. Information is also available on current projects and there is a list of recent publications.

Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA)

COMESA is an inter-governmental body encouraging economic cooperation between countries in East and South Africa. Member states include: Angola, Burundi, Comoros, D.R.Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sudan, Swaziland, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Womandkind Worldwide is a UK charity devoted to empowering women to to improve their lives and lift their families and communities out of poverty. Womankind works closely with 55 partner community groups in 15 developing countries and funds projects that address local issues. Council of Europe (ETS No.126) - European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment

The full-text of the Convention that "provides for the setting up of an international committee empowered to visit all places where persons are deprived of their liberty by a public authority. The committee, composed of independent experts, may make recommendations and suggest improvements in order to strengthen, if necessary, the protection of persons visited from torture and from inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
