Edinburgh Legal History Blog

The Edinburgh Legal History blog is written by academics at the University of Edinburgh Law School. Posts focus on Scottish and European legal history and the civil law tradition. University of Edinburgh Centre for Legal History

Website of the Centre for Legal History a research department at the University of Edinburgh. The Centre’s research interests focus on Roman law, learned laws in the Middle Ages, history of law in Europe, Scots law history and legal history of Louisiana. The site gives information on events including conferences, lectures and seminars organised by the Centre and links to relevant resources – other research centres, societies, websites and journals. A selection of videos of lectures is also made available on the site.

Immigrant Council of Ireland

The Immigrant Council of Ireland is an independent law centre providing assistance to people seeking immigration information and advice. The website has guidance to the law on citizenship, family reunification, employment in Ireland and international students. There is information on the Council’s campaigns, partner organisations and training along with a selection of links to related bodies. The Council’s publications and annual reports can also be downloaded from the site.

Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs

Official website of the South Sudan Ministry of Justice the government body dealing with legal matters, drafting laws and presiding over the judiciary and legal profession in the Republic of South Sudan. The laws of South Sudan including the Constitution are given on the site. An outline of the country’s criminal justice strategy and policies for strengthening human rights and the rule of law are also available along with information on the process for transitional justice and judicial reform following the conflict in South Sudan.

Unified Court Records

The Unified Court Records database (UCR) holds the public courts records of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) which was set up to deal with residual functions of the tribunals eg. future trials of remaining fugitives, appeals for early release, protective orders for witnesses and safeguarding of confidential documents.

International Law Behind the Headlines

This is a free legal podcast hosted by ASIL (American Society of International Law). The podcast features legal experts and covers a range of international legal issues. Recent episodes have focused on international obligations regarding climate change, peace treaties and the World Trade Organisation in the second Trump administration. The podcast is available monthly and can be accessed on the ASIL website and via Apple and Soundcloud.

Private Law Theory

The Private Law Theory blog is written by Steve Hedley, Professor of Law at University College Cork. The blog highlights developments in private law theory covering articles, judgements and conferences. Posts can be browsed by subject which include conflict of law, consumer law, defamation, negligence, tort and unjust enrichment. The site also gives links to books, upcoming conference, seminars and lectures and other law blogs.

Centre for People’s Justice

Website of the Centre for People’s Justice an initiative of the University of Liverpool Law School working in partnership with the Universities of Glasgow, Sheffield, Swansea, Wrexham, Ulster and the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies London. The Centre is focused on community-led research looking at how law is made and understood by the public. There is information on the academic team and current projects.
