Taxation of Real Estate Transactions: A Comparative Study of Selected Mediterranean Jurisdictions

Online guide to the legal and tax framework for foreigners acquiring real estate in Portugal, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lebanon and Montenegro, written by Marin Ljubić who is a Candidate of Postgraduate Doctoral Study at the University of Zagreb, Croatia. The guide was published in 2022 on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law. For each jurisdiction the author looks at whether foreigners can purchase real estate, which taxes are applied and gives links to relevant legislation.

Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights: Four Realms of Discussion, Research and Annotated Bibliography

This is the annotated bibliography section of an article on artificial intelligence (AI) and human rights written by Jootaek Lee who is assistant professor and librarian at Rutgers Law School (Newark). The bibliography was published in 2022 on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law.

National Data Privacy Legislation

A database of data privacy legislation from jurisdictions across the world, with data privacy laws dating from 1970 until the present. Full-text legislation is available in PDF form and searchable by year and country. Some sub-national laws are included and versions of some laws in different languages (including English if possible) are also available. The database is hosted and maintained by WorldLII.

The Chagos Archive

Online collection of documents, maps, photographs and videos recording the history of the people of the Chagos Islands (also known as the British Indian Ocean Territory, or BIOT), their exile when the US-UK military base was set up on Diego Garcia, and the resulting legal disputes. The archive includes US and UK official documents; UN documents; documents from court cases; birth, death and marriage records; material from Chagossian organisations; literature about the Chagos Archipelago its people; and material from the national archives of Mauritius and the Seychelles.

British Indian Ocean Territory

Website of the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT) Administration. BIOT, also known as the Chagos Archipelago, is a British overseas territory in the Indian Ocean. The site has information about the US-UK military base and the history and governance of the archipelago. It provides a few issues of the BIOT Official Gazette and has an Ordinances page that was under construction at the time of writing. There is also information about British government policy, environmental matters and scientific studies.

Gazettes.Africa

Free online versions of official government gazettes from various African countries, compiled into one website, hosted by Laws.Africa and AfricanLII. The gazettes contain important government information, for example governmental notices and legislation such as acts and bills. The gazettes are in PDF form and are searchable by country and date, with new gazettes being updated on the website continually. The collections vary from country to country, and there are gazettes from 22 jurisdictions as well as the East African Community and ECOWAS.

SHERLOC

The SHERLOC (Sharing Electronic Resources and Laws on Crime) website has been compiled by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). It’s aim is to facilitate the dissemination of information regarding implementation of the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, the Convention’s three protocols and the international legal framework against terrorism.

EUAA Case Law Database

This website provides access to the European Union Asylum Agency (EUAA) Case Law Database which includes national case law relating to the Common European Asylum System (CEAS). Cases issued by national and international courts (covering both the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights) are included and can be searched or browsed by date, country or topic. A case summary is given on the site along with a link to the original source. The site also contains EUAA publications and links to member states’ judicial institutions.

South Africa’s By-Laws

Open By-laws is a community project supported by Laws.Africa which aims to make South African by-laws accessible online. By-laws are made by municipalities and the site currently provides access to the by-laws of Cape Town, Drakenstein, Johannesburg, Kannaland, Swartland, eThekwini, Bergrivier, Cape Agulhas, Cederberg, Matzikama and Mbizana. Instruments can be browsed alphabetically or searched by keyword, and downloaded in a range of formats.

Law Reform Commission

The role of the Mauritian Law Reform Commission (LRC) is to keep the law of Mauritius under review and to make recommendations for reform. LRC reports are available to download from the website with recent reports covering anonymity of individuals in court judgements and discriminatory laws against women in Mauritius. Annual reports, newsletters and press releases are also given.
