Irish Treaty Series

This treaty database, maintained by the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland, contains entries for all instruments published in the Irish Treaty Series since 1930. Records are typically composed of the ITS number, the title of the agreement, the parties, whether it was bilateral or multilateral, the date signed and the date in force. Full-text PDFs are available for all the treaties since 1998, however only a limited number of treaties prior to this include the full text.

Official gazettes and civil society documentation

Collection of endangered government publications from ten African countries and Gulf states, digitised by the US-based Center for Research Libraries (CRL). Includes official gazettes – which typically publish legislation, government notices, et cetera - from Algeria, Congo Brazzaville, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, Somalia and Zimbabwe. Most, but not all, of the digitised content is from the 1950s to the 1990s. The CRL website is in English and the gazettes are in the language of the country of publication.

ASEAN Judiciaries Portal

Launched in 2018, the ASEAN Judiciaries Portal (AJP), produced by the Council of ASEAN Chief Justices (CACJ), provides information about the judiciaries and legal environments of the ASEAN member states. On the main site there are pages dedicated to the CACJ activities and training courses offered, as well as a case repository. The portal also includes sections specific to the various member states, including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Database-CIL

Aimed at researchers and policy makers, this database is a free public resource continually being updated by the Centre for International Law at the National University of Singapore. The database comprises over 900 ASEAN documents (treaties and soft law documents) and 300 other international law documents, with details of Southeast Asian implementation of key instruments. It can be searched by title, date, key word and treaty status. Each database entry provides documents in both pdf and word formats, as well as an external link, and recommended related instruments.

Australian legislation

This guide to Australian legislation is compiled by the University of Melbourne and made freely available on its website. Content includes pages on the different types of legislation, how to locate them, and advice on legislative research. Pages dedicated to the specific Australian states can be found under the finding legislation tab. These pages will usually consist of annotated links to the authoritative website, and then other sites providing legislation in that area. As this guide is aimed at law students, it also includes a page on citing and referencing resources.

Australian case law

This guide to Australian case law is compiled by the University of Melbourne and made freely available on its website. The guide outlines where to go to locate case law, gives annotated links to various resources and provides jurisdiction-specific pages covering the main reports produced for each state/territory and for Commonwealth Australia.

Department of Justice - External Affairs

External Affairs section of the Hong Kong Department of Justice website, which includes all the multilateral agreements in force and applicable to the Hong Kong SAR, and major bilateral and consular agreements which have come into force. The multilaterals are arranged by subject, and records are composed of the name, date in force, any relevant supplements, and a link to the text. The bilateral and consular agreements can be found under ‘Other Agreements’, and are arranged into agreement types.

Researching the Legal System of the Republic of Sudan

Online guide to Sudanese law written by Mai Aman who is a Sudanese lawyer and children’s rights advocate. The guide was published in 2023 on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law. The author gives background information to the political situation in Sudan and an overview of the legal framework. There is an outline of the courts system and links are given to a selection of Sudanese laws, some of which are in Arabic only. 

Researching International Labour Law

Online guide to resources in international labour law written by Erica Friesen who is a Research and Instruction Librarian & Online Learning Specialist at Queen’s University’s Lederman Law Library in Kingston, Canada and Brianna Storms who is a Research and Instruction Law Librarian at Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada. The guide highlights key International Labour Organization (ILO) resources giving advice on how to navigate these. Resources covered and linked to include international labour standards, fundamental conventions, governance conventions, databases and statistics.

Employment & Labour Laws and Regulations 2023

Employment & Labour Laws and Regulations 2023 is an online comparative legal guide written by employment law specialists and published by Global Legal Group in London. This is a charged resource but parts of the guide are made freely available. These sections include jurisdiction chapters which give an overview of employment law in 34 jurisdictions covering terms and conditions of employment, employee representation, discrimination, maternity rights, termination of employment, data protection and employment tribunals.
