Researching the Legal System of the Republic of Sudan

Online guide to Sudanese law written by Mai Aman who is a Sudanese lawyer and children’s rights advocate. The guide was published in 2023 on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law. The author gives background information to the political situation in Sudan and an overview of the legal framework. There is an outline of the courts system and links are given to a selection of Sudanese laws, some of which are in Arabic only. 

Researching International Labour Law

Online guide to resources in international labour law written by Erica Friesen who is a Research and Instruction Librarian & Online Learning Specialist at Queen’s University’s Lederman Law Library in Kingston, Canada and Brianna Storms who is a Research and Instruction Law Librarian at Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada. The guide highlights key International Labour Organization (ILO) resources giving advice on how to navigate these. Resources covered and linked to include international labour standards, fundamental conventions, governance conventions, databases and statistics.

Employment & Labour Laws and Regulations 2023

Employment & Labour Laws and Regulations 2023 is an online comparative legal guide written by employment law specialists and published by Global Legal Group in London. This is a charged resource but parts of the guide are made freely available. These sections include jurisdiction chapters which give an overview of employment law in 34 jurisdictions covering terms and conditions of employment, employee representation, discrimination, maternity rights, termination of employment, data protection and employment tribunals.

Anti-Counterfeiting Group

Website of the Anti-Counterfeiting Group (ACG) an international  membership organisation representing businesses, brand owners, specialist lawyers and trademark agents. The ACG works with UK, EU and international governments and law enforcement agencies to tackle crime in counterfeit and pirated goods. There is information about the work of the ACG, news and events and a directory of members. Information guides are given on the dangers of fakes, intellectual property crime and proceeds of crime.

Chartered Trading Standards Institute

Website of the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) a membership body for trading standards professionals. The site also provides trading standards and consumer protection information aimed at consumers and businesses including guides to the law dealing with issues such as consumer contracts, product safety, underage sales and weights and measures. Details of events and a link to the CTSI Journal of Trading Standards are also given.

International Trademark Association

The International Trademark Association (INTA) is a membership body representing brand owners, businesses, law firms and related trademark and intellectual property professionals. The INTA works to foster effective IP laws and policies worldwide. The website has a range of resources including model laws and guidelines, articles, research reports, podcasts and legal updates. There is also guidance aimed at SMEs and consumers focusing on registering and protecting trademarks and counterfeiting. Some of the content on the site is restricted to members only.

Consumer Crime Cases

The Consumer Crime Cases (CCC) website provides free access to case commentaries and digests of consumer protection and trading standards appeal cases. The site is produced by Victor Smith former Head of Legal Services at Northamptonshire County Council. Cases can be searched using free text terms or using the keyword index or legislation list. Digests highlight key points of law, extracts from the judgements and links to related cases. There are also pages of links to related organisations and legislation.

Emplaw

Emplaw is a subscription service hosted by the General Federation of Trade Unions (GFTU) and written by employment law specialists. The site provides guidance on a wide range of employment law topics and summaries of employment law decisions from the UK and European courts and tribunals. There is free access to employment law news stories and articles and to Emplaw Monthly, a review of developments in employment law which is available back to 2014. A directory of employment lawyers is also given.

The Bookshelf

A database of Philippine primary legislation, cases and reference material, compiled by the Supreme Court of the Philippines. Covers Supreme Court cases, laws, executive issuances, references and treaties. The Supreme Court cases section of the Bookshelf encompasses decisions and signed resolutions back to 1996 only, but cases are available back to 1901 using the search facility (E-Library Search). The Laws section covers acts, constitutions, presidential decrees and other legislative material from 1900 to the present.

Tech Law Blog

A blog written by law professionals from A&L Goodbody LLP, detailing current affairs concerning intellectual property and technology law in judicial, government and legislative bodies in Ireland. Information such as judgments, appointment announcements, and commentaries on intellectual property and technology law are available, as well as posts containing updates on access to material. For instance, publications of acts are announced along with links and short summaries. No registration required, and available in English only.
