International Court of Justice

Website of the International Court of Justice, the principal judicial organ of the United Nations. The site lists cases currently being heard by the Court and cases pending and provides information about the Court's role, jurisdiction and procedure. All judgments and advisory opinions are available, together with the decisions of the Permanent Court of International Justice. Other basic documentation includes the Court's statute, its rules, and the resolution on judicial practice. The site also available in English, French, Spanish and other languages.

HUDOC: Human Rights Documentation

HUDOC is a free database of European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) cases, decisions and reports of the European Commission of Human Rights, and resolutions of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. It is part of the ECHR web portal. Users may search by case name, respondent, application number, Convention article, keyword, conclusion, date range and other criteria. Documents are HTML, PDF or Word format. The interface is available in English, French, Russian, Spanish or Turkish; the documents are mostly in English and/or French.

Netherlands Institute of International Relations

The Netherlands Institute of International Relations, sometimes known as Clingendael, is an independent research body which specialises in work relating to conflict, international organisations, the European Union, NATO and the United Nations. Its website provides access to information on its purpose and current research. It includes research reports on all aspects of international conflict and security worldwide and access to the Institute's library catalogue. All information is available in English.

FLAG Foreign Law Guide

FLAG is a searchable directory of foreign and international law holdings in UK libraries. It helps to identify the best locations for particular materials and so makes foreign and international law more accessible to researchers. The database can be searched by jurisdiction, type of legal literature, and/or region of the UK in which the material is available. The FLAG website also provides background information, reports and other documentation, together with details of database updates.

METRO: Institute for Transnational Legal Research

Website for METRO, Maastricht University's Institute for Transnational Legal Research. Information is provided on the work and aims of the Institute with outlines of its interdisciplinary research programmes, covering matters such as human rights, women and law, constitutional law, and the legal aspects of business and enterprise. METRO specialises in transnational research dealing with issues of European and international integration and identifying common ground amongst the legal systems of European Union member states.

WIPO administered treaties

Section of the official World Intellectual Property Organisation website, publishing treaties and conventions administered by the Organisation, including the convention establishing WIPO, WIPO copyright treaty, Paris Convention, Berne Convention, Rome Convention, Madrid Agreement and Locarno Agreement. The collection is organised into three groups including intellectual property protection treaties, global protection system treaties and classification treaties which create the classification systems that organise information relating to inventions, trademarks and industrial designs etc.

Institute of Air and Space Law

Website developed by the Institute of Air and Space Law (based at McGill University, Quebec, Canada) providing extensive links to air and aviation law and space law resources on the internet. The site contains links to primary materials such as international conventions and related protocols on air and aviation law and space law. Public and private international law conventions are included. The full-text of these conventions are offered in English or French. The site also provides a table which shows the status of individual countries with regard to international air law instruments.

Oceans and Law of the Sea

Internet site publishing Law of Sea resources and related links developed by the Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea at the UN Office of Legal Affairs. The site presents unedited advanced texts and official reports and resolutions of the Secretary-General; the full-text and an overview of UNCLOS (the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea) and related agreements with status information on ratifications and accessions. There is organisational information on the Division, information on the settlement of disputes and links to bodies established by the Convention.

Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights seeks to promote universal enjoyment of all human rights by responding to violations and promoting the implementation of international instruments. Its website provides the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in over 300 different languages, together with human rights treaties, fact sheets, decisions and working documents of the various UN human rights bodies (such as the Committee Against Torture and the Council on Human Rights). Printed and multi-media materials relating to the Universal Declaration are also available.

International Centre for Criminal Law Reform and Criminal Justice Policy

The International Centre for Criminal Law Reform and Criminal Justice Policy is an independent non-profit institute, officially affilated with the United Nations and based at the Faculty of Law, University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. The website contains publications, occasional papers and reports which can be ordered online or downloaded in PDF. The site gives details of the following programmes conducted by the Centre: Corrections Programme; China Programme; Transnational Organised Crime; UN Congress on Crime and International Criminal Court.
