Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) deals with compensation claims from people who have been physically or mentally injured because they were the blameless victim of a violent crime in England, Scotland or Wales. CICA is an executive agency, sponsored by the Ministry of Justice. Its section of the official website, Gov.UK, provides its reports and other publications and includes guidance on making a claim.

Motor Accident Solicitors Society

The Motor Accident Solicitors Society (MASS) is a membership organisation for solicitors specialising in road accident claims. MASS also provides legal advice for people who have been victims of road traffic accidents and those involved in motor accident compensation claims. Advice on the site includes a checklist for accident victims, a guide to who pays the cost of legal advice and a glossary of legal terms. A section of the website is reserved for members only.

Human Rights and Democracy reports

Page of the UK government website providing the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's reports on its activities promoting human rights abroad from 2003 to 2022. Each report covers individual nations as well as information on liaison with EU bodies and other international organisations such as the United Nations. They also have sections covering conflict resolution and peace-keeping; women's and children's rights; justice; humanitarian aid; the promotion of economic and social rights; election monioring and democratic rights.

Queen Mary Intellectual Property Research Institute

The Queen Mary Intellectual Property Research Institute (QMIPRI) forms part of the Centre for Commercial Law Studies at Queen Mary, University of London. The Institute is engaged on research into all aspects of intellectual property law and policy. The website has information about QMIPRI including profiles of faculty staff, brief details of research being carried out and information about seminars training programmes and courses run at QMIPRI.

Govan Law Centre

Website of the Govan Law Centre (GLC) which provides free and low cost legal services for disadvantaged people in Scotland. The site has information about the GLC and its work (including a copy of their annual report) along with contact details for other law centres in Scotland. There is a selection of guides to common legal problems including consumer law, bankruptcy, debt, housing law and neighbour nuisance and a range of money advice resources covering mortgage repossession, benefits and small claims.

IPKat

IPKat is an intellectual property blog produced by a group of UK-based IP lawyers and patent agents. Founded in 2003, it focuses on UK and European law and covers issues such as copyright, patents, trademarks and branding. Links to other relevant web resources such as cases, legislation, news sources and company websites are also included.

Faculty of Advocates

The Faculty of Advocates is the professional association for Scottish advocates (the equivalent of English barristers). Its website has information about the work of an advocate, a directory of advocates, legal news, responses to consultations and details of the training courses. Protecting Pregnant Workers and New Mothers

A Health & Safety Executive (HSE) Web portal which draws together information, legislation and forms covering the health and safety of new and expectant mothers at work. The site provides guidance to legislation including the Management of Health and Safety Regulations 1999, Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, Employment Rights Act 1996 as amended by the Employment Relations Act 1999 and the Sex Discrimination Act 1975. There is a selection of full-text leaflets and guidance made available in PDF format aimed at working mothers, employers and health professionals.
