Online guide to the law of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) written by Dunia P. Zongwe who is a former graduate fellow of the Institute for African Development at Cornell University. The guide was published in 2011 (and updated in 2023) on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law. The author gives background and historical information to SADC which is a regional economic community composed of 15 countries in Southern Africa. SADC law is comprised of principles, rules and institutions adopted and created by SADC and binding on its member states. SADC law covers the areas of trade, investment, agriculture, infrastructure, services, natural resources and security. There is information on the law making bodies of SADC including the Council, Secretariat and the Tribunal along with links to SADC protocols on a range of legal subjects including mining, energy, forestry, tourism, health, extradition and the SADC Tribunal. There is a section on the SADC Constitution and on laws focusing on trade, finance and investment and mining.
