Human rights awareness month case map

Online article and map of 50 landmark human rights cases compiled by John Louth, who is Editor-in-Chief of Academic Law Books, Journals, and Online at Oxford University Press. The map is made freely available on the OUP website. Each case has a brief description and a link to a related article or report on the case. The aim is to include cases showing the “variety of international, regional, and national mechanisms and fora for adjudicating human rights claims, and the range of rights that have been recognized.”

Cyberwarfare and collateral damages

Online article explaining cyberwarfare, collateral damage and the role of victims, written by Edoardo E. Artese and Valentin Vitkov, who are Italian lawyers specialising in IT law. The article was published in 2015 on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law. The authors provide a definition of cyberwarfare, comparisons with other types of warfare and how it is dealt with under international law. There is a section on collateral damages and victims and examples are given of recent cyberattacks.

African Legal Information Institute

The African Legal Information Institute (AfricanLII) makes available treaties, cases, resolutions, decisions, reports and other publications of African regional organisations. It also provides access to legislation and cases from 16 African countries, via its search facility. The home page has links to regional and national African websites. AfricanLII is a project of the Democratic Governance and Rights Unit (DGRU) at the University of Cape Town law faculty.

International Law and Consumer Protection: The history of consumer protection

Article on consumer protection law written by Antonella Corradi who works at the Ministry of Cultural Activities and Heritage of Italy. The article was published in 2015 (and updated in 2025) on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law. The author provides a brief history of consumer protection, details of consumer organisations and sections on European and United States consumer protection law.

Planetary Protection Obligations of States Pursuant to the Space Treaties and with Special Emphasis on National Legislations Provisions

Article by lawyer Gustavo Boccardo, published on New York University's Globalex website and last updated in 2018. Discusses contamination of space by space exploration missions and the reverse, where potentially dangerous organisms are bought back to Earth in samples for scientific analysis. Covers the Outer Space Treaty and to the planetary protection policies of the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR). Also gives an overview of planetary protection provisions in the national law of states who are parties to the Outer Space Treaty.

Its website has a ‘Knowledge Bank’ consisting of articles, briefings, case commentary and newsletters covering business and finance, commercial disputes, shipping, international trade, energy and aviation.

Inter-American Court of Human Rights Database

Searchable summaries of Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) decisions, in English. Detailed summaries are available for some cases, covering the facts, procedural history, merits, and state compliance with the judgment; for other cases only a short abstract is provided. The database can be searched by case name, country, topic, treaty article and other criteria. It is an initiative of Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. International Tax Dialogue

International Tax Dialogue (ITD) is a joint undertaking by the IMF, European Commission, Inter-American Development Bank, OECD, World Bank Group and Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations. It seeks to promote international discussion and cooperation on tax matters. The ITD website provides articles, briefings and other publications on tax policy, tax law and tax procedure, together with hundreds of tax treaties. News and information about events organised by the ITD are also provided. The site is in English, but partial French and Spanish versions are available.

Hungarian media laws in Europe

Report on media laws in Hungary published and made freely available online by the Center for Media and Communication Studies at the Central European University in Budapest. The report analyses Hungary’s new media laws to assess how far they conform to European media regulation standards and compares aspects of the Hungarian system to those of other EU countries. Topics covered in the report include independence of the Hungarian media authority, media regulation, public service media and powers of the media authority. Introduction to the Malaysian Legal System and Sources of Law

Online article to Malaysian sources of law written by Dr. Sharifah Suhanah Syed Ahmad who is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Malaya in Malaysia. The guide was published in 2012 (and updated in 2014) on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law. The author provides an overview to past legal systems of Malaysia and their legal sources including the Malacca Sultanate and the British era.
