Researching South African law

Online guide to researching South African law written by Amanda Barratt and Pamela Snyman who are law librarians at the University of Cape Town Law Library. The guide has been updated by Redson Kapindu who is a Lecturer in Law at the University of Johannesburg. The guide was published in 2005 and updated in 2018 on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law. The authors give background and historical information to the structure of the state including the Constitution, Parliament and judicial system.

Judicial information of the People's Republic of China: a survey

An online guide to finding Chinese judicial information written by Zhai Jianxiong who is an associate research librarian in law at the National Library of China. The guide was published in the features section of LLRX.com in October 2002. The article gives an overview to the judicial structure in China and looks at sources of judicial information including printed and online materials.

ALM Experts

Website of ALM Experts, a free online directory of United States experts which is published by legal journalism company American Lawyer Media. The directory contains over 15,000 experts and can be searched by name, state, company or area of expertise or browsed by state or area of expertise. Experts records vary with some having a profile, curriculum vitae, website and email address while others just have contact details. Areas of expertise are available as a PDF document and can be viewed as an alphabetical or hierarchical index.

Malaysian Bar

Website of the Malaysian Bar Council. The site includes details of the members of the Bar Council, the various committees, contacts for the state bar committees and details of the Council's conferences and events. The site contains professional information including guidance to qualifying as an advocate and solicitor in Malaysia, legislation concerning the legal profession, Bar Council rulings and practice directions back to 1946. The site has information on the Bar's disciplinary powers and there is a searchable directory of lawyers, law firms and legal aid centres.

Association of Personal Injury Lawyers

The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) is a UK-based organisation for lawyers of all types, and law students. Its website provides information for members of the public who have suffered an injury, a searchable directory of personal injury lawyers, APIL's responses to government consultations, information about its parliamentary work and particular campaigns, details of product recalls and other information. Parts of the site are restricted to APIL members only.

ADLAW By Request

Website of ADLAW By Request, Reed Smith's free online advertising and marketing law E-magazine. The site features news, press releases, and feature articles in several sections including In the Courts and International. It also includes links to other Reed Smith newsletters such as Legal Bytes, a monthly publication. You will need to register to access the newsletter in PDF format, but this is free. An archive of Adlaw by Request is also available.

Global Advertising Lawyers Alliance

Website of the Global Advertising Lawyers Alliance (GALA) a network of independent law firms with expertise in advertising, marketing and promotion law. The website gives access to GALA's members around the world providing contact details, URLs and profiles of the law firms. Some of the law firms provide in-house articles to download. There are also updates on the advertising and marketing law in each country and a page of legal news.

Chancery Bar Association

Website of the London based Chancery Bar Association (ChBA ) which represents barristers in private practice whose work is associated with the Chancery Division of the High Court. Members of the ChBA are listed in the Chancery Bar Association Directory which is available on the website. There is an alphabetical and regional listing of chambers along with an alphabetical listing of individual barristers. There is a future events listing and copies of the ChBA's Conditional Fee Agreements are available to download in Word.
