LAWASIA

Website of LAWASIA, a professional association drawing its membership from "representatives of bar councils, law associations, individual lawyers, law firms and corporations" in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been designed to support LAWASIA's role in enabling an exchange of ideas and information and cooperative work between lawyers, business and government. Information is provided on the organisations membership, conferences and events, sections and standing committees. Issues statements and public resolutions of the LAWASIA council are published online.

American Society of Criminology

The American Society of Criminology is an international organisation which promotes research and education in all areas of criminal justice. It has divisions focusing on corrections and sentencing; critical criminology; experimental criminology; international criminology; people of color and crime; and women and crime. The website describes the work of the Society and provides information about its annual meeting. The Publications page includes a link to criminology abstracts.

Irish Referendum on the Treaty of Nice (2001)

Research paper by Vaughne Miller of the House of Commons Library, available on the UK Parliament website. Examines the Irish vote against the ratification of the EU's Treaty of Nice, which took place on 7th June 2001. Aspects considered include: the background to the referendum, the position of the Irish government, campaigns for and against the treaty and the implications of the no vote in Ireland and for Europe as a whole. Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia

This is the official website of the parliament of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). It provides information on the history, structure of the Congress and its current activities. It includes a listing of current members of parliament, the full-text of recent press releases and the national and state constitutions of the region. Also accessible is information on recent laws and legislative activity in parliament.

Institute for Information Law

Web pages for a research facility based in the Faculty of Law at the University of Amsterdam. The site explains the aims, work and fields of study undertaken at the Institute. Research teams explore the legal issues relating to intellectual property, industrial property, freedom of information and expression, privacy, media law, telecommunications, advertising and consumer law, and e-commerce on a private and commissioned basis. Research papers and other publications on these topics are published online on the site.

Trade Agreements

The Trade Agreements section of the SICE Foreign Trade Information System site developed by the Organization of American States (OAS). The site includes a collection of full text multilateral and bilateral trade agreements relating to international trade and to members of the OAS. There is documentation relating to customs unions including MERCOSUR, CARICOM, CACM and the Andean Community, multilateral agreements such as GATT and regional scope agreements. Agreements can also be viewed by country. A site search engine is available.

International Law Commission

Website of the International Law Commission (ILC), which was created in 1947 by the UN to assist in the development, promotion and codification of international law. Documentation arising from annual sessions of the ILC is available on the site back to 1949. A research guide is provided, which gives access to individual texts, instruments and reports adopted by the ILC. The annual reports and yearbooks of the International Law Commission are available from 1949 onwards.

Law Council of Australia

Website of the national council of lawyers in Australia, a professional organisation promoting and developing the role of Australia's lawyers, administration of justice and access to justice in the interests of the Australian community. The Council was formed in 1933 by a number of Australian state Bar Associations and Law Societies. The site describes the history, role and membership of the organisation, with notes about committee and sectional structure, seminars and conferences, and traineeships. Policy documents can be downloaded from the site in PDF.

Organisation of South African Law Libraries

Web pages for the professional association of law libraries and librarians in South Africa. The organisation draws its membership from staff working in law firm, academic and government libraries specialising in law and legal information management. The site provides information about the structure and work of OSALL, including their constitution in PDF, notes on membership procedures and list of committee members with contact details.
