Legal Service of the European Commission

The Legal Service of the European Commission is the in-house legal adviser to the Commission. Its functions include drafting legislation and representing the Commission in the courts. The Legal Service is also responsible for coordinating the official codification of Community legislation. The website gives background information about the role and structure of the Legal Service, including an organisation chart and links to official documents and related organisations. It is available in English, French and German.

Droits d'Urgence

Droits d'Urgence is a French lawyers' association established in 1995, providing free legal advice to poor and marginalised people. The site offers basic information on the association's work and mission, including its charter and code of practice for volunteers, and its programme of legal advice / information in Paris and elsewhere. The association co-operates with a number of local authorities and humanitarian agencies in France. Its journal, News d'Urgence, and monthly bulletin, Veille Juridique, are available on the website. The site is in French.

Law Times

Law Times is a weekly Canadian legal newspaper published by Canada Law Book. The website publishes headline legal news stories linking to selective online copies of articles available in the print version. There is also a section of case digests appearing in the current issue of the print version. A commentary section features editorial comment and letters to the editor.

Ordre des Avocats de Paris

The Ordre des Avocats de Paris has approximately 18,000 members, who are avocats (advocates or barristers) in Paris. The website provides press releases, Le Bulletin du Barreau de Paris (back to January 2001), statistics and information on the role, regulation and history of the profession. An online directory (annuaire) of members can be searched by name, address, district, legal speciality, language spoken etc.

Mozambique Justice Sector and the Rule of Law

Online report looking at the law and legal system of Mozambique published by the Africa Governance, Monitoring and Advocacy Project (AfriMAP), a project of the Open Society Foundation and the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa. The document is available on the website of Africa Criminal Justice Reform project at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa. The publication is in two parts, part one is a discussion paper providing policy recommendations arising from the full report and part two is the full report itself.

Pro Bono Net

Pro Bono Net is a non-profit organisation providing support for volunteer lawyers working in the United States. Its website has sections for lawyers working in different US states and practice areas (including human rights, prisoner rights, health care law and asylum law), with news and online legal materials for their members.

LawHelp

LawHelp is a legal information site for the general public in the United States, hosted by Pro Bono Net (a US association for pro bono lawyers). It covers legal aid and pro bono legal services and provides guides to the law. Resources are organised by state and include information on legal rights in the areas of employment law, family law, human rights, immigration, consumer issues, taxation, housing and public benefits. 

Singapore Ministry of Law

Official website of the Ministry of Law, with information about registration of lawyers and insolvency practitioners in Singapore, dispute resolution, legal aid, regulation of money-lenders, intellectual property rights, administration of land, transnational civil and criminal justice and other matters. Provides official guidance, details of policy consultations, parliamentary speeches and news. Includes 'Insight Minlaw', a collection of articles about legal developments and the future of law.
