CILEx Regulation

CILEx Regulation is the independent regulator of chartered legal executives, other members of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) and non-members who have practice rights in the legal sector. The website has separate sections giving information for consumers and lawyers. It also contains information on practice rights. The website makes available the CILEx Code of Conduct and CILEx Regulation codes. In addition, there is a directory of disciplinary records containing details of all disciplinary decisions made against CILEx (or previous ILEx) members.

Centre for Crime and Justice Studies

Website of independent educational charity Crime and Justice Studies which is concerned with advancing public understanding of crime, criminal justice and social harm. There is information on the various projects run by the Centre along with news, comment and details of events. The Centre publishes the British Journal of Criminology and Criminal Justice Matters the organisation’s newsletter. Both publications can be viewed on the site. There are also regular briefings covering topics such as criminal record checks, rough sleeping and undercover policing.

Public Defender Service

The Public Defender Service (PDS) is a department of the Legal Aid Agency providing a range of criminal defence services including advice and representation at the police station or magistrates court through to advocacy in the higher courts. The PDS was established in 2001 as the first salaried criminal defence service in England and Wales and provides legal aided defence representation in all types of criminal cases.

Daniel Geey

Website of Daniel Geey who is a partner at sports and media law firm Sheridans. His blog focuses on the law relating to football providing occasional posts covering topics such as the effect of Brexit on football, players’ deals with big brands, football image rights and player transfer agreements.

The Federal Trust for Education and Research

Website of the Federal Trust, a research charity “studying the interactions between regional, national, European and global levels of government”. Articles and pamphlets are made freely available on the site. These cover devolution in the UK, the UK constitution and the effects of Brexit on the European Court of Justice and international trade. There are also details of events held by the Federal Trust.

UK Treaties Online

Official database of UK treaties and treaty information, maintained by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Contains details of treaties published since 1783 and the full text of treaties published in the UK Treaty Series from 1892 onwards.

Department for Exiting the European Union

Website of the UK government’s Department for Exiting the European Union (DExEU), which has responsibility for overseeing negotiations to leave the EU and establishing the future relationship between the UK and EU. Government publications, including policy and consultation documents on Brexit, are available on the site along with press releases providing updates on negotiations and government statements.

Brexit Reading List: Legal and Constitutional Issues

Online bibliography on the legal and constitutional issues surrounding Brexit, compiled by the House of Commons Library, and made freely available online in PDF. There are sections covering the EU referendum, constitutional and legal issues surrounding UK withdrawal, the triggering of Article 50, the High Court Judgement on Miller v. Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, the role of parliament in triggering the process and in the negotiations, the possibility of a second referendum on a withdrawal agreement and issues concerning Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Professional Standards Authority

Website of the Professional Standards Authority, an independent body set up under the NHS Reform and Health Care Professions Act 2002 to improve the regulation and registration of people working in health and care and develop standards for regulators and accredited registers to meet. The site provides information and links to all the UK health regulators as well as accredited registers that register health and social care practitioners who are not regulated by law such as the Association of Child Psychotherapists or the British Acupuncture Council.

Social Care Wales

Social Care Wales is the body that sets and maintains standards for the social care workforce in Wales. There is information on the Register of Social Care Workers in Wales which is administered by Social Care Wales and on the Code of Professional Practice for Social Care which sets standards for all care professionals in Wales. The site also has training, development and careers information for the social care sector. A collection of resources including documents, videos and links to external web resources of interest to social care workers in Wales is also given on the site.
