Courts of New Zealand

Official website of Courts of New Zealand, the body responsible for court administration in New Zealand. Includes a database of selected higher court judgments, called Judicial Decisions of Public Interest and mostly consisting of criminal cases and other judgments of public interest. The site also has information about the role, structure and history of the courts and explains the functions of the Judicial Committees and the Rules Committee. There is also information about the judiciary. Sections covering the individual courts provide legislation, daily lists and case summaries.

Access to New Zealand Law

A free online research guide focusing on New Zealand law and legal materials written by Margaret Greville who is the Law Librarian at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. The guide was published in 2005 (and updated in 2019) on the Globalex Website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law. Background information is given to the New Zealand Government and legal system along with sources of primary legal information including treaties, legislation and case law.

New Zealand legislation

New Zealand's official legislation website, provided by the Parliamentary Counsel Office (PCO). Includes public, local and private acts, secondary legislation, bills and supplementary order papers. Since January 2014, authentic online versions of legislation have been available, including official updated texts of principal legislation (as against amending legislation) enacted or made since 1931, as well as other point-in-time versions. The site also has old provincial acts and imperial legislation. A glossary of legislative and other terminology is provided.

Court of Appeal of New Zealand decisions

An NZLII (New Zealand Legal Information Institute) web database providing free public access to decisions of the New Zealand Court of Appeal. Most of the cases are from the 1990s onwards, but many earlier cases are also available, back to one from 1867. Cases are listed by name and year, and there is a search facility. NZLII is a joint project of the University of Otago Faculty of Law, the Victoria University of Wellington Faculty of Law and the Australasian Legal Information Institute (AustLII).

Takeovers Panel

Official website of the New Zealand Takeovers Panel, the body responsible for enforcing the Takeovers Code and keeping the law on takeovers under review. The Panel was established by the Takeovers Act 1993. The website provides information about the Takeovers Code; the Transactions page has decisions and exemption notices issued by the Panel since 2001; guidance, consultation documents and other material is also available.

An introduction to the legal structure of Tokelau:a collection of primary materials, commentary, and online resources

Online guide explaining the laws and legal system of Tokelau in the South Pacific, a self-administering territory of New Zealand. The guide is by Peter Murgatroyd, Law Librarian at the Emalus Campus Library at the University of the South Pacific. It gives an introduction to Tokelau, information on sources of law and links to Tokelau legislation. There is an outline of the governmental system and government institutions along with details of the relationship Tokelau has with New Zealand.

Employment Court of New Zealand

Official website of the New Zealand Employment Court, which has jurisdiction over employment disputes. The site provides information on the history, role and structure of the court and gives an outline of its founding legislation. There is guidance on bringing a case and judgments are available from 2006 onwards, together with practice directions, court forms, statistics and other information.

Australian and New Zealand Law and History Society

The New Zealand Law and History Society (ANZLHS) is a scholarly society based in New South Wales, Australia. Membership of ANZLHS is drawn from historians, lawyers and academics sharing an interest in the connections between law and history. The site has joining information and details of conferences and competitions. There is also information about the society's journal, law&history, including contents lists, and a link to the discontinued title, Australian and New Zealand Law & History E-journal (on Austlii).
