International Academy of Comparative Law

The International Academy of Comparative Law was established in 1924 to promote the study of comparative law and to bring together comparative law scholars from all over the world. Its website provides information about the Academy’s officers, members, national committees and congresses, together with its statutes and bye-laws and brief details of its publications. The site is in French and English.

IBFD Library Catalogue

IBFD’s online Library Catalogue can be used to search for journal articles on international and comparative taxation, as well as the more usual book titles and journal titles. The IBFD Catalogue indexes articles from tax journals published all over the world. For the latest items, see ‘New in the Catalogue’. Amsterdam-based IBFD (International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation) is a leading authority on cross-border taxation.

Free Access to Law Movement (FALM)

The Free Access to Law Movement is a global association of organisations involved in the free dissemination of legal information, such as the Australasian Legal Information Institute and the British and Irish Legal Information Institute. FALM’s website provides the text of the Declaration on Free Access to Law, minutes of meetings and details of FALM’s ‘Law via the Internet’ conferences. There is also a link to the Journal of Open Access to Law, which is affiliated with FALM.

LegiGlobe

French-language website providing an introduction to about 150 of the world’s legal systems, together with an overview of many comparative law topics and introductions to selected. international organisations. LegiGlobe is an initiative of the Réseau Francophone de Diffusion du Droit (RF2D), supported by the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie. The website can be browsed by country, international organisation or comparative law topic. There is also a site index and a collection of useful links.

Intellectual Property Regulation Board

The Intellectual Property Regulation Board (IPReg) regulates patent attorneys and trade mark attorneys in the UK. Its website explains its work, provides general guidance and publishes case documentation, including decisions of the Disciplinary Board. Also available are news items, consultation documents, a list of bodies registered with IPReg, a register of patent attorneys and a register of trademark attorneys.

Ince & Co

Ince & Co is a network of commercial law firms with offices in London, continental Europe, the Far East, the UEA and Singapore. Its website has a ‘Knowledge Bank’ consisting of articles, briefings, case commentary and newsletters covering business and finance, commercial disputes, shipping, international trade, energy and aviation.

International Tax Dialogue

International Tax Dialogue (ITD) is a joint undertaking by the IMF, European Commission, Inter-American Development Bank, OECD, World Bank Group and Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations. It seeks to promote international discussion and cooperation on tax matters. The ITD website provides articles, briefings and other publications on tax policy, tax law and tax procedure, together with hundreds of tax treaties. News and information about events organised by the ITD are also provided. The site is in English, but partial French and Spanish versions are available.

Kluwer Arbitration Blog

Arbitration blog written by expert academic lawyers and practitioners from around the world. Comments on court decisions, arbitral awards and other developments in the field of arbitration. Can be browsed by category, date or contributor, or searched, and RSS feeds are available. The blog is run by publishing company Kluwer Law International.

Constitute

Free database of constitutions from around the world, provided by the Comparative Constitutions Project, which is based at the University of Texas at Austin. At the time of writing, the database contained the constitution that was in force in September 2013 for almost every independent state. Constitutional documents for countries that do not have a single written constitution are not yet available, but will be added, as will historical verisons of constitutions. The Constitute database can be browsed by topic or country, or searched by key word.

Extensive list of abbreviations for law reports, law journals, courts, government departments, international organisations and so on, provided by Monash University Library, Australia. Covers Australia and other common law jurisdictions and public international law; also has key abbreviations from civil law jurisdictions.
