Waterlex Legal Database

The Waterlex Legal Database brings together information about national and international water law, governance and policy. It is provided by Waterlex, an international NGO. The data is partly crowd-sourced and partly obtained from the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization and other official bodies. The database is searchable by key word and can be filtered by country, region and/or type of document. For many countries, extracts from legislation are available, with links to the full text on national websites.

FOG Database

The Foreign Official Gazette database (FOG) is a tool for locating collections of official gazettes in major libraries and archives, tracking title changes and looking up other details about particular official gazettes; it does not contain full-text material. FOG covers about 650 titles, from all around the world, held in American libraries or at the UK’s National Archives. The database can be searched by jurisdiction and/or holding institution. FOG is provided by the Centre for Research Libraries, an international consortium founded in 1949 and based in the United States.

International Compliance Association

The International Compliance Association (ICA) promotes regulatory and financial compliance and professional conduct in the financial sector around the world. Its website contains information on the roles of the ICA and qualifications approved by and run by it. It also gives basic information about financial crimes and unprofessional conduct within the financial sector. Articles by members of the ICA are available, as well as news items and the ICA code of conduct. There are links to national and international banks and banking regulation organisations worldwide.

LERU Law Portal

Portal to open access legal research material from the law faculties at twelve leading European universities. Launched in 2014, LERU includes details of more than 45,000 doctoral theses, articles, book chapters, conference papers and other documents, many of which are available to download in full. Users can browse by university or year, or search by key words; search results can be filtered by language, author, year and other criteria.

Juriglobe: world legal systems

Website of JuriGlobe a research group of the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa. The site provides data on the different legal systems in the world- civil law, common law, Muslim law, customary law and mixed systems- and gives a directory of jurisdictions using each of the systems. The information is presented in different ways showing legal systems by geographic region, the systems used by United Nations member states and by population distribution.

International Academy of Comparative Law

The International Academy of Comparative Law was established in 1924 to promote the study of comparative law and to bring together comparative law scholars from all over the world. Its website provides information about the Academy’s officers, members, national committees and congresses, together with its statutes and bye-laws and brief details of its publications. The site is in French and English.

IBFD Library Catalogue

IBFD’s online Library Catalogue can be used to search for journal articles on international and comparative taxation, as well as the more usual book titles and journal titles. The IBFD Catalogue indexes articles from tax journals published all over the world. For the latest items, see ‘New in the Catalogue’. Amsterdam-based IBFD (International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation) is a leading authority on cross-border taxation.

Free Access to Law Movement (FALM)

The Free Access to Law Movement is a global association of organisations involved in the free dissemination of legal information, such as the Australasian Legal Information Institute and the British and Irish Legal Information Institute. FALM’s website provides the text of the Declaration on Free Access to Law, minutes of meetings and details of FALM’s ‘Law via the Internet’ conferences. There is also a link to the Journal of Open Access to Law, which is affiliated with FALM.

LegiGlobe

French-language website providing an introduction to about 150 of the world’s legal systems, together with an overview of many comparative law topics and introductions to selected. international organisations. LegiGlobe is an initiative of the Réseau Francophone de Diffusion du Droit (RF2D), supported by the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie. The website can be browsed by country, international organisation or comparative law topic. There is also a site index and a collection of useful links.

Intellectual Property Regulation Board

The Intellectual Property Regulation Board (IPReg) regulates patent attorneys and trade mark attorneys in the UK. Its website explains its work, provides general guidance and publishes case documentation, including decisions of the Disciplinary Board. Also available are news items, consultation documents, a list of bodies registered with IPReg, a register of patent attorneys and a register of trademark attorneys.
