England and Wales Court of Appeal (Civil Division) Decisions

A BAILII (British and Irish Legal Information Institute) database containing decisions of the Civil Division of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales. The database contains all decisions as provided by the official shorthandwriters WordWave International Ltd for the years 1996 - August 1999 and then all significant handed down decisions to date. Selected earlier decisions back to 1883 are also available. Cases are listed alphabetically by party name and chronologically by year. The system features a sophisticated search facility and Recent Cases listing.

England and Wales High Court (Administrative Court) Decisions

A BAILII (British and Irish Legal Information Institute) database containing decisions of the Administrative Court of the Queen's Bench Division of the High Court of England and Wales (previously known as the Crown Office List). The database contains all decisions handed down from August 1999 onwards to date. Decision handed down from May 1996 to August 1999 have been provided by the official shorthandwriters WordWave International Ltd. Cases are listed alphabetically by party name and chronologically by year and can be searched by keyword.

Government Legal Department

Official website of the Government Legal Department (GLD), formerly the Treasury Solicitor. The website explains the role and kinds of work undertaken by the department as the government’s principal legal advisers. The GLD pages form part of the GOV.UK website and include publications, announcements and consultations. The website gives the names of the management team of the GLD. A link to the Bona Vacantia division of the GLD is also provided.

British and Irish Legal Information Institute

The British and Irish Legal Information Institute (BAILII) provides free access to legislation, cases, law reform reports and other legal materials from the United Kingdom, Jersey, Ireland, the European Court of Human Rights, the European Court of Justice and the EU's General Court. The cases are from the higher courts and tribunals; most date from the last two decades or so, but BAILII also provides a collection called Leading Case Law by Subject, and many of these cases are much older. Materials may be browsed by jurisdiction, title and year.

Law Society Gazette

Online version of the long-established weekly journal of legal news and comment for solicitors of England and Wales. Includes to legal news, opinion, information and job vacancies. A searchable archive contains issues from 1986 onwards. A link to the website of the publisher, the Law Society of England and Wales, is also available.

Welsh Parliament (Senedd)

Official website of the Welsh Parliament (Senedd Cymru) the body with responsibility for making Welsh laws, setting taxes and overseeing the work of the Welsh Government. The site contains information about Senedd members and the various committees. The Record of Proceedings, a transcript of the proceedings of the Senedd's Plenary meetings, can be searched on the site. There is information about the Bills and Acts of Senedd Cymru and the Senedd's legislative process.

Law Commission for England and Wales

Website of the Law Commission, an independent body created by the Law Commissions Act 1965 to keep the law under review and recommend reforms. Details of the laws currently being reviewed by the Commission are available, and responses are encouraged to current consultations and recent reports. Reports, consultation papers and other publications going back to 1996 are available on the site; earlier Law Commission reports are available on other sites and links to these are provided.

Legal Aid Agency

The Legal Aid Agency is the body responsible for the administration of legal aid in England and Wales. The Agency gives means-tested financial help for people needing legal advice and administers legal aid for civil and criminal cases. There is guidance on how to apply for legal aid and information for service providers. The site has a list of current tenders and news items.

Courts and Tribunals Judiciary

Official website of the judiciary of England and Wales providing information on judges, magistrates and tribunal members and including reports, judgements and key facts. There is information describing the various types of judges and their role, functions and jurisdiction, court dress and forms of address. Key facts are provided including statistics, a legal calendar, an organisation chart of the court hierarchy, a glossary of legal terms and biographies of senior judges. The Learning Resources section has quizzes, historical information and webcasts.

Law Society of England and Wales

Website of the Law Society, the body responsible for supporting and representing solicitors in England and Wales. The site provides information about the the organisation and activities of the Law Society, including details of work in the areas of law reform, parliamentary activity and responses to proposed changes in the law. It also provides a copy of the Law Society's Royal Charter, details of products and services for solicitors and further information about practice support, continuing professional development and dealing with complaints.
