Sentencing Council

The Sentencing Council website provides information on the work of the  Sentencing Council for England and Wales. This body "promotes greater consistency in sentencing, whilst maintaining the independence of the judiciary". There is information on sentencing guidelines, the Sentencing Code and how sentencing works. There is also guidance on going to court and the sentences handed down for common offences. 

 

Traffic Penalty Tribunal

Website of the Traffic Penalty Tribunal for England and Wales an independent tribunal which hears appeals brought by motorists who have been issued with parking penalties. The site provides information on the adjudication process and the steps involved in challenging a Penalty Charge Notice and the removal or clamping of a vehicle. There are examples of Adjudicators' decisions in appeals grouped by parking regulation. These are intended to show the sort of appeals that are likely to be successful. The site also has links to relevant legislation and a glossary of terms.

Valuation Tribunal for Wales

Website of the Valuation Tribunal for Wales an independent organisation that deals with appeals about Non-Domestic Rates and Council Tax in Wales. The site has a selection of FAQs providing background information about the role and functions of the Tribunal, how to prepare a case, attending the hearing and making an appeal. A link is given to an external site providing access to the Tribunal’s decisions.

Valuation Tribunal Service

Website of the Valuation Tribunal Service (VTS). There are 56 Valuation Tribunals in England and 4 in Wales whose role is to hear appeals relating to Non-Domestic Rates and Council Tax. The website includes full text decisions and appeals listed for hearing back to October 1999. Decisions can be searched by appeal number, postcode or using a free text search option. Guidance documents give advice on making an appeal along with a selection of FAQs. Newsletters focusing on changes in the valuation law are aimed at staff within the tribunal service and can be viewed on the site.

Civil Court Users Association

Web pages of the Civil Court Users Association (CCUA) which represents organisations and individuals using the Civil Courts in England and Wales. Many CCUA members form part of the credit industry in particular public utilities, banks, finance houses and law firms. The website provides background information to the CCUA including the aims and objectives of the Association. Copies of the CCUA's Memorandum and Articles of Association and a selection of FAQs are also available online. Parts of the site can be accessed by members only.

Primary Health Lists Tribunal

The Primary Health Lists Tribunal has superseded the former Family Health Services Appeal Authority. It hears appeals by general medical practitioners, dentists, chemists and opticians against decisions taken by Primary Care Trusts relating to their lists of "medical performers". Its pages on the HM Courts and Tribuanl Service website give an overview of its role and provide rules and legislation, details of forthcoming cases and a link to decisions back to 2004.

Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber)

The Tribunal's jurisdiction includes rating appeals, land compensation, taxation appeals concerning land and blight notice references. The website has information about the Tribunal, including a link to a database of decisions and a list of appeals from the Lands Chamber to the Court of Appeal. An online guide explains the role of the Tribunal along with a copy of the Lands Tribunal Rules 1996 and the Practice Directions. Statutory forms are presented in PDF format.

England and Wales High Court (Supreme Court Cost Office) Decisions

A BAILII database containing full text decisions of the Supreme Court Cost Office of the England and Wales High Court of Justice. The database contains all decisions from 2000 onwards to date made available to the Court Service and public. Cases are listed alphabetically by party name and chronologically by year. The system also offers a comprehensive search facility and Recent Cases listing. Earlier decisions (pre 2005) are provided in summary form only.

England and Wales High Court (Admiralty Division) Decisions

A BAILII database containing decisions of the Admiralty Division of the High Court of England and Wales. The database contains decisions from 2001 onwards to date made available to the Court Service and public. Cases are listed alphabetically by party name and chronologically by year. The system also offers a comprehensive search facility and Recent Cases listing. The British and Irish Legal Information Institute (BAILII) is a collaborative service providing free access to primary legal materials for the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.

United Kingdom Employment Appeal Tribunal

A BAILII database containing Full Hearing judgments of the Employment Appeal Tribunal (EAT) which are transcribed or handed down by the Tribunal. The EAT deals with appeals from the decisions of the Employment Tribunals, the Certification Officer and the Central Arbitration Committee Employment Appeal Tribunal. Its jurisdiction extends to England and Wales and Scotland. The database contains judgments from 1976 to date. Cases are listed alphabetically by party name and chronologically by year. The system also offers a comprehensive search facility and Recent Cases listing.
