Researching Islamic law: Malaysian sources

Online guide to Islamic law in Malaysia, by Shaikh Mohamed Noordin, a law librarian based in Kuala Lumpur. The guide was published in 2009 (and updated in 2021) on New York University's Globalex website. It covers the establishment of Islamic law in Malaysia and the Islamic law tradition. There is a section on sources of Islamic law and examples of Malaysian legislation, focusing on Islamic family law, procedural law, criminal law and financial law.

Guide to the law and legal materials of Malaysia, by Shaikh Mohamed Noordin, a Library Consultant with Belden Advocates and Solicitors, and Shanthi Supramaniam, a partner at the same firm. Published on New York University's Globalex website and updated periodically, it covers the legal system, the legislature, executive and courts. There are links to official and commercial legislative sources, federal and state government websites, to government departments and to statutory and regulatory bodies such as the Securities Commission and the Bank Negara Malaysia (the central bank of Malaysia).

Asian Legal Information Institute

The Asian Legal Information Institute (AsianLII) website provides free access to legal materials from all 28 countries and territories in Asia, as well as the regional organisations, APEC, ASEAN and SAARC. It includes legislation, case law, law reform reports, treaties, a few law journals and other legal material, along with links to other law sites. The content can be searched or browsed; searches can be limited to one country, or extended to all countries. 

Bank Negara Malaysia: Legislation

This section of the Central Bank of Malaysia's website provides Malaysian banking legislation. The available legislation includes the Central Bank of Malaysia Act 2009, the Financial Services Act 2013, the Islamic Financial Services Act 2013, the Insurance Act 1996 and the Currency Act 2020. The site also provides standards and guidelines and circulars covering banking, Islamic banking, payment systems, insurance and takaful, money services business and other topics.
