European Commission: Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs

Webiste of the European Commission's directorate-general for the Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs ('DG GROW'). Covers EU policy on the Single Market - which aims to secure the free movement of goods, services, people and capital in the EU - business and related matters. The site provides organization charts for the D-G, lists calls for tender, outlines the D-G's information activities and explains its work on impact assessments and policy evaluation.

Court of Justice of the European Union

Official website of the Court of Justice of the European Union. The site explains the the organisation, jurisdiction and procedure of the Court of Justice and General Court and provides their rules of procedure and practice directions. All the courts' case law is available (including decisions of the now-defunct Civil Service Tribunal) via numerical case indexes and a separate case database. For cases decided from January 2012 onwards, there are authenticated electronic reports (the Electronic Reports of Cases, or 'e-ECR').

Europa

Europa is the official website of the European Union and its homepage is a portal to EU information and documentation. The site explains how the EU works and gives details of its policies on all topics. The EU Law section explains how laws are made and provides links to EU treaties, legislation and cases. The Publications section includes official reports, statistics and other documents. There is also a section providing information for businesses. The site is run by the European Commission on behalf of the EU as a whole; it is available in all the official EU languages.

ARENA (Advanced Research on the Europeanisation of the Nation-State)

ARENA is a research programme focusing on developments in the governance of Europe. It is based at the University of Oslo. The website provides details of ARENA working papers from 1994 to the present, with links to the full text of many. Items published in the ARENA Reprint Series are listed without the full text. Information about the ARENA Report Series is also given, with some links to the full report. The site hosts the RECON Online Working Papers series on democracy in Europe; the full text of these is available. Details of seminars and other events are given.

Statewatch database

Statewatch is a non-profit voluntary organisation which monitors the state and civil liberties in the UK and the rest of Europe. The Statewatch Database contains more than 25,000 records, including news, features, pamphlets, reports, legislation, EU resolutions and agreements, details of UK parliamentary debates and those of the European Parliament and reports on European Court of Human Rights cases. Material less than 6 months old can be accessed free of charge; older materials require a subscription.

EU Bookshop

EU Bookshop is run by the Office for Official Publications of the European Union (also known as the Publications Office). It provides free access to the full text of all EU official publications issued since 1952. This includes all reports, documents and yearbooks from the key EU institutions and Agencies, covering all aspects of EU domestic and foreign policy, including issues relating to the EURO, EU accession and enlargement, legislation and political reports. Users can search or browse the website.

Summaries of EU legislation

This section of the EU's Europa portal provides summaries of EU legislation in all policy areas. The information is arranged by subject, including agriculture, competition, employment and social policy, human rights, the internal market, regional policy and transport; these subjects are further sub-divided by specific area of law. Each section has an introduction to the policy, an outline of the legislation, details of relevant policy documents and information about future developments. Links are provided to the legal texts and official documents mentioned.

Sussex European Institute

Sussex European Institute (SEI) is a research centre based at the University of Sussex and a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence. It specialises in teaching and research in the broad areas European integration, representative politics and the politics of ethnicity, citizenship and migration, taking an interdisciplinary approach. The website provides detailed information on the aims and activities of the Institute. It includes access to SEI working papers (mid-1995 to date), SEI seminar papers (2006 to date) and the in-house newsletter 'Euroscope' (2000 to date).

European Parliament: Supporting Analyses

This part of the European Parliament's website provides a searchable database of research produced by European Parliament departments. All aspects of the work of the European Parliament are covered, including legal affairs, constitutional affairs, agriculture, the economy, human rights, the environment, international trade and freedom security and justice. In addition to the database itself, there is a subject catalogue of the documents it contains, providing brief details but not the full text.

Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union

This section of the European Parliament's website contains the full text of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union with detailed commentary on each chapter. Links are provided to relevant national, international and EU laws. Annexes contain reports by independent experts on the safeguarding of fundamental rights in Europe; UN and Council of Europe conventions; and a list of NGOs involved in the field of fundamental rights.
