The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is part of the US Department of Transportation and is responsible for the safety of civil aviation. There is an area of the site devoted to regulations and policies, including access to the Regulations and Guidance Library comprising a set of searchable databases relating to relevant regulatory information. An Airworthiness Directives database is also accessible from the site providing all directives in operation. There is a section giving information about aviation safety, and an area giving access to FAA's publications including technical reports, research literature and newsletters. Some documents are available in the PDF format. Other sections deal with aircraft, airports, air traffic and provide guidance on obtaining air licenses and certificates.
