The department was formed in January 2005 from a merger of the former departments of Customs and Excise, and Immigration and Nationality. It enforces and administers an independent customs territory for the island. The site publishes information for residents, traders and visitors, including details of Jersey's own rates of excise duty, summary of restrictions on trade between Jersey and other customs jurisdictions, and notes on Jersey's relationship with the European Union.
