Official site of the Government of Nunavut. Nunavut was established by the Canadian Parliament Nunavut Act 1993 in recognition of the rights and land claims of the Inuit, the territory's indigenous people. Nunavut officially joined the federation of Canada in 1999. The website provides general information about the history, people, culture and government of Nunavut, with links to the Legislative Assembly and other government departments. The information is also available in French, Inuktitut and Inuinnaqtun. The site includes an option to down-load the "Pigiarniq" fonts needed to view Inuktitut.
