Antarctic Treaty

Description:

This section of the British Antarctic Survey website provides background information and full-text copies of the Antarctic Treaty 1959 and related agreements including the Convention for the Conservation of Antarctic Seals (1972), Agreed Measures for the Conservation of Antarctic Fauna and Flora (1964), the Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (1980) and the Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty (1991). This collection of international agreements is known as the Antarctic Treaty System. The site gives a list of signatories to the treaty and information about the specialised bodies who contribute to the work of the Antarctic Treaty System.
