Asian and Pacific Law Guide

A legal research guide for Asia and the Pacific region, created by the library at the University of Sydney. Includes regional legal information as well as covering twenty-five individual jurisdictions. For each jurisdiction, there are annotated links to sources of legislation and cases, information about the legal system, information relating to international law (such as participation in treaties), and links to research guides.  

Law of the Pacific Islands

A guide to web-based resources, listing and describing internet sites providing legislation, law reports and government information for the Pacific Island region. The guide has been written by Ruth Bird who is Bodleian Law Librarian at the University of Oxford, Dianne Thompson who is a Librarian at the Legal Services Commission of South Australia and Anna Matich of the ASIC in Brisbane. The guide was published in the features section of LLRX.com in July 2008 and updates previous versions published in October 2000, April 2002 and December 2005.

Antarctic Treaty

This section of the British Antarctic Survey website provides background information and full-text copies of the Antarctic Treaty 1959 and related agreements including the Convention for the Conservation of Antarctic Seals (1972), Agreed Measures for the Conservation of Antarctic Fauna and Flora (1964), the Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (1980) and the Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty (1991). This collection of international agreements is known as the Antarctic Treaty System.

Tonga Consolidated Legislation

A PacLII database containing consolidated legislation of Tonga from the 1988 revised edition. The acts can be browsed by title or year, and there is a search facility. PacLII, the Pacific Islands Legal Information Institute, offers free access to legislation and cases for jurisdictions in the South Pacific. It is a joint initiative involving the University of the South Pacific and the Australasian Legal Information Institute.

Vanuatu Legislation

A PacLII database containing full-text legislation in HTML format from Vanuatu. The legislation is taken from the 1988 consolidation with subsequent acts from 1998 onwards. Act name search and browse options are provided. Other indexes provided on the site include an Index of Statutory Orders, Acts and Regulations of the Vanuatu Parliament 1980 to 2008 and a Numerical List of Revised Acts 1988. The service is hosted and developed by PacLII, the Pacific Islands Legal Information Institute, which provides free access to legislation and cases for jurisdictions in the South Pacific.

Antarctic Treaty Secretariat

The Antarctic Treaty Secretariat is based in Buenos Aires and is responsible for providing information about the Antarctic Treaty system and support for the annual Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM). The site has documents, related agreements and information relevant to the Antarctic Treaty including the text of the original Treaty, the Environment Protocol and details of Parties to the Treaty. There is also information and documentation relating to the Committee for Environmental Protection (CEP) and to ATCM meetings.

Antarctic Treaty Database

Website of the Antarctic Treaty Database made freely available online by the Antarctic Treaty Secretariat in Buenos Aires. This searchable database provides access to the text of measures adopted by the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM) including all recommendations, measures, decisions and resolutions from 1961 onwards. Users can search or browse documents by meeting, category and topic. Categories include environmental protection, marine pollution, monuments, scientific cooperation and tourism. These categories can be broken down into more detailed topic headings.

Antarctic treaty system

Australian government website focusing on the Antarctic Treaty. Includes the text of the treaty and background information on its purpose and history, plus a list of parties. Also includes the Madrid Protocol, which is concerned with environmental protection. References and links are given to the principal instruments and Australian legislation concerning the protection of the Antarctic environment.
