British Library Patents Collection

This page forms part of the Business and IP section of the British Library’s website and provides guidance on using the patent library. There is information on early English patents and a list of patent resources (some available online) held at the BL. There is also guidance on what constitutes a patent, how to gain patent protection and what rights a patent gives.

Advocate Khoj

Advocate Khoj is an Indian law website intended for the general public. Its main purpose is to put people with legal problems in touch with qualified lawyers, via the ‘Post your Case’ section; registration is required to use this service, but there is no charge. Advocate Khoj also provides primary and secondary Indian legislation, Indian Supreme Court judgments, official forms, a glossary and other Indian legal information.

Overview of the Mongolian Legal System and Laws

Online guide to the law and legal materials of Mongolia written by Chris Melville, Erdenedalai (Dalai) Odkhuu and Anthony Woolley of Hogan Lovells (Mongolia) LLP. The guide was published in 2015 on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School at the New York University School of Law. The authors provide an overview and history of the Mongolian legal system highlighting the main sources of law including the Constitution, legislation, international treaties and interpretations of the Supreme Court.

FOG Database

The Foreign Official Gazette database (FOG) is a tool for locating collections of official gazettes in major libraries and archives, tracking title changes and looking up other details about particular official gazettes; it does not contain full-text material. FOG covers about 650 titles, from all around the world, held in American libraries or at the UK’s National Archives. The database can be searched by jurisdiction and/or holding institution. FOG is provided by the Centre for Research Libraries, an international consortium founded in 1949 and based in the United States.

Law and Your Environment

The Law and Your Environment web page is a plain guide to environmental law compiled by the UK Environmental Law Association (UKELA) and made freely available on their website. The guide provides information on the law dealing with a range of environmental areas including air pollution, climate change, marine environment, fracking, noise, planning and wildlife issues. Each section breaks down to include case studies, contacts, FAQs and links to relevant legislation and other resources.

UK Environmental Law Association: Brexit

This section of the UK Environmental Law Association (UKELA) website focuses on issues surrounding Brexit and the future of UK environmental regulation. There is guidance on the impact of European Union membership on environmental law in the UK and a selection of UKELA policy papers on the implications of Brexit for different areas of environmental law. There are also links to articles by environmental law experts dealing with topics such as climate policy, nature conservation in the UK and environmental law in Scotland.

Statelessness: A Web Research Guide

Online guide by information specialist Elisa Mason, published on the Forced Migration Current Awareness blog and updated in 2024. The guide highlights free online resources explaining the concept of stateless people and sources of law relating to statelessness, including treaties and national legislation. It explains the role of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and details printed, online and educational resources on stateless people.

Guide to International Refugee Law Resources on the Web

Online guide to legal resources focusing on international refugee law. The guide was compiled by Elisa Mason, an information specialist undertaking research into refugee and forced migration studies, and published in 2017 on the forced migration current awareness site. The author outlines the role of international refugee bodies such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and highlights key international instruments relating to refugee law as well as national legislation and case law.

Internally Displaced Persons: Guide to Legal Information Resources on the Web

Online guide to resources focused on people who have had to flee their homes to avoid violence, disasters or human rights violations but remain within their country’s borders. The guide was written in 2017 by Elisa Mason who is an information specialist undertaking research into refugee and forced migration studies. The author highlights primary and secondary legal materials covering international, regional and national law with an emphasis on freely available resources.

Overheid.nl

The Overheid.nl website is an online gateway providing guidance to Dutch government websites and to information from other public bodies in the Netherlands. There is a comprehensive page of links to the Dutch parliament, government ministries, provinces and municipality websites. There are also direct links to government sites dealing with topics such as immigration, studying in the Netherlands, trade, health and tourism. An outline of how government works in the Netherlands is also given covering the passage of legislation and information on the judicial system.
