Peter Forskaal: Thoughts on Civil Liberty

Website dedicated to and celebrating Peter Forsskål's influential treatise Tankar om borgerliga friheten (Thoughts on Civil Liberty) published in Sweden in 1792. Forsskal's work contributed to access to information and the abolition of prior censorship which was established in 1766 by law in Sweden. The site gives information about the history of the work, access to the original pamphlet text and in English translation and in several other languages. Details of events related to freedom of information, civil liberties and the legacy of Peter Forskaal are provided.

Haitian Law Digital Collection

The Haitian Law Digital Collection provides access to digitised versions of Haitian legal documents. The collection forms part of the Digital Library of the Caribbean a “cooperative digital library for resources from and about the Caribbean and circum-Caribbean” administered by Florida International University in partnership with the University of the Virgin Islands and the University of Florida. The site currently offers documents from the mid nineteenth century through to 2007 including legislation, government publications and periodicals.

Timor-Leste Legal Education Project

Website of the Timor-Leste Legal Education Project (TLLEP), a partnership between The Asia Foundation (TAF) and Stanford Law School (SLS). The TLLEP works with the National University of Timor-Leste to help develop legal education in Timor-Leste in Timorese universities, government institutions and non-governmental organisations. The TLLEP write legal textbooks which are made freely available online via the TLLEP website and foster cross-cultural exchange between educators and students in Timor-Leste and Stanford Law School.

Copyright user

Website providing information and guidance on UK copyright law, made freely available online by the University of Glasgow and Bournemouth University. The site is aimed at users and creators of copyright works. There are videos of creators (filmmaker, artist, musician, developer etc.) discussing copyright issues and sections providing guidance on topics such as copyright exceptions, public domain and obtaining permission to use copyright works.

Cybercrime Research Centre

Website of the Cybercrime Research Centre, a unit established by Nicolaus Copernicus University in Poland to conduct research into cybercrime and related issues. The site has details of conferences organised by the Centre, links to relevant European legislation and a selection of articles on computer crime which are freely available to download from the site. The site can be viewed in Polish and English.

Academic Network for Legal Studies in Immigration and Asylum in Europe (Odysseus Network)

The Odysseus Network conducts comparative academic research into the immigration and asylum law of the EU and its member states. It was set up with the financial support of the European Commission's Odysseus programme and is based at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. The website describes the work of the Network and provides the contents pages of its publications, or links to the full text. Information is also given about its summer schools, and all the Network’s annual reports are available in full. English and French versions of the site are available.

China Guiding Cases Project

Collection of ‘guiding cases’ decided by the Supreme People’s Court of China, translated into English and made available by the China Guiding Cases Project (CGCP) at Stanford Law School in the US. Guiding cases are decisions that have been designated as leading cases, under a procedure introduced in 2010. The website also includes expert commentary on the cases. The Law Summaries page has outlines of the Chinese law of contract, intellectual property, labour and the environment/natural resources with links to translated laws on these subjects. The website is in English and Chinese.

Virtuelles Datenschutzbüro

German portal project to provide advice and support relating to data protection and freedom of information to both commercial and personal users. Users can choose from a selection of keywords which both lead to a collection of full text documents, including relevant German legislation, and provide a gateway to resources on other sites. It is also possible to search the site using Boolean operators. The project offers a wide range of training events and details are provided.

Qatar Law Forum

Qatar Law Forum is an international conference hosted in Doha under the patronage of the Emir of Qatar. It aims to discuss the Rule of Law and related issues of international law and has been convened twice, in 2009 and 2012. The forum’s English website provides links to news articles relating to the forum and also provides documents on the discussions including newsletters, the text of some of the speeches and a discussion paper on the role of ethics in finance. The site also features YouTube clips of the conference and photographs.

Belgian Science Policy (BELSPO)

This website from the Belgian Federal Science Policy Office provides information on Belgian federal science policy, including overviews of current research programmes, details of international and bilateral co-operation and coordination in the field and upcoming conferences and symposia. Air and space policy and law is covered in some detail. The site gives an overview of Belgian space law and provides links to the English text of the Law on the Activities of Launching, Flight Operation or Guidance of Space Objects (2005) and also of the Royal Implementing Decree (2008).
