Reprieve

Reprieve is a London-based charity providing legal representation and assistance for prisoners facing the death penalty and prisoners held beyond the rule of law, for example at Guantanamo Bay; it also investigates and campaigns on issues such as drone attacks and extraordinary rendition. The organisation was founded by human rights lawyer Clive Stafford Smith. The ‘Our Work’ page of its website provides reports, responses to consultations and other publications, together with information and documentation relating to Reprieve investigations and particular prisoners’ cases.

Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe: Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights

The Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights is part of the intergovernmental Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). It observes elections, monitors democracy and seeks to foster human rights, tolerance and the rule of law. The Office’s website describes its work, provides press releases and makes available its recommendations, reports, and other publications. On the Resources page there is a Documents Library, an email news service and a multimedia library.

Website monitoring the protection of fundamental rights in Europe, provided by the University of Bologna’s Interdepartmental centre for research in European Communities Law (CIRDCE), the Lelio and Lisli Basso Foundation and European Magistrates for Democracy and Freedoms (MEDEL). The site makes available a collection of journal articles, studies and other commentary, under ‘Comments’.

Qatar Law Forum

Qatar Law Forum is an international conference hosted in Doha under the patronage of the Emir of Qatar. It aims to discuss the Rule of Law and related issues of international law and has been convened twice, in 2009 and 2012. The forum’s English website provides links to news articles relating to the forum and also provides documents on the discussions including newsletters, the text of some of the speeches and a discussion paper on the role of ethics in finance. The site also features YouTube clips of the conference and photographs.

European Systemic Risk Board

The European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB) was set up by the European Commission in 2010, to monitor risk in the financial system. Together with the ESA and the EIOPA it forms part of the ESFS (European System of Financial Supervision). Describes the work of the Board and provides its publications - including reports, opinions and research papers - together with policy information, a Risk Dashboard and a European Financial Crises Database. The interface is available in multiple languages, but most of the content is in English only.

European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority

The European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) forms part of the European System of Financial Supervision, together with two other supervisory authorities and the European Systemic Risk Board. Core responsibilities of this body include support of the stability of the financial system and protection of insurance policy holders and members/beneficiaries of pension schemes. Sections of its website cover background information, press releases and publications relating to the policies and work of the organisation. Full-text documents are provided, mainly in PDF format.

European Banking Authority

The EBA was established by regulation (EC) No. 1093/2010 of the European Parliament and officially took over responsibilities from the Committee of European Banking Supervisors on January 1st 2011. It is based in London. The site provides egislation and legal documents concerning the founding of the EBA and its role. There is also a wide selection of documents relating to aspects of financial supervision and the work of the Authority. These are mainly in English but the Annual Report is available in other EU languages.

European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights

The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) provides expert advice to EU institutions on questions relating to fundamental rights. Its website includes reports, factsheets and studies; a database of ECJ judgments relating to fundamental rights; and opinions submitted to EU institutions by the FRA. It also makes available a ‘Charterpedia’, a compilation of international, EU and national constitutional law and EU case law relating to fundamental rights.

Collected Travaux Préparatoires

Directory of travaux préparatoires (preparatory documents) for treaties, provided by the Lillian Goldman Law Library at Yale University. Lists travaux préparatoires that have been published in printed form and/or online. Includes contents pages for many items and has links to some full-text documents. The directory is an ongoing project and new contributions are invited.
