Asylum Information Database

The Asylum Information Database (AIDA) is compiled by the European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE) and contains information on asylum issues in 20 countries (17 EU countries and 3 non-EU countries). There are country reports detailing asylum procedures, reception conditions and detention of asylum seekers in countries covered by the database. There are also comparative reports which analyse practice relating to the implementation of asylum standards in these countries and AIDA Legal Briefings which address key issues in EU asylum law and policy.

Laws of South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands

This section of the South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands (SGSSI) government website provides access to the Ordinances (primary legislation) and Orders and Regulations (secondary legislation) made by the Commissioner for the Territory. The South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands are a self-governing Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom. The laws are arranged by date back to 1908 and can be viewed as PDFs. A link is also given to the British Settlements Act 1887 under which the SGSSI Commissioner has the power to make laws.

The site has information on the status and government of the islands along with sections covering the environment, fisheries and tourism. Annual reports, policy documents and SGSSI legislation are also given.

Press for Change

Press for Change is a lobbying and legal support group for transgender people in the UK. The site provides guidance to key legislation including the Equalities Act 2010 and the Gender Recognition Act 2004. There is also information on issues such as pension rights and employment case law. Other parts of the site offer guidance on health issues and hate crime and provide links to research and to other organisations concerned with transgender issues.

European Commission Directorate General for Justice and Consumers: Combatting Discrimination

This section of the European Commission’s Justice website provides information on the EU’s work tackling discrimination on the grounds of racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation and sex. This is done through raising awareness, supporting other bodies to combat discrimination, providing training and development of equality policies. Links are given to EU documents and initiatives dealing with work in this area and to work by the European network of legal experts in gender equality and non-discrimination.

Local government legislation: byelaws

This section of the GOV.UK website provides information on local authority byelaws and how they are confirmed by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG). Byelaws are local laws made by local authorities and confirmed by the Secretary of State. The site makes available 7 sets of model byelaws covering a range of subjects that can be used and adapted. Guidance is also given on making, advertising and applying for confirmation for the byelaws.

Local Authority Byelaws

This page on the House of Commons Library website provides information on and access to ‘Local Authority Byelaws’ a briefing paper by Mark Sandford. Byelaws are local laws, made by local authorities and other bodies, designed to deal with local issues. This report outlines the procedure for making byelaws, use of model byelaws and confirmation of byelaws by government departments. There is also information on the 2016 regulations which were introduced to reform the byelaw procedure in England and changes to byelaw procedure in Wales.

St Helena Government

Website of the St Helena government. St Helena is an island in the South Atlantic and a self-governing Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom. St Helena forms part of a group including Ascension Island and the Tristan da Cunha group of Islands. There is information about the legal system, structure of government, government directorates and the island’s environment. There are also web pages aimed at tourists and investors. Other parts of the site provide access to the laws of St Helena, government publications, government gazettes and Supreme Court judgements (2015 onwards).

St Helena forms part of a group including Ascension Island and the Tristan da Cunha group of islands. The St Helena government enacts its own local laws- ordinances and secondary legislation- which are linked to on this site. Laws are arranged alphabetically and given in PDF. There is also a link to the Saint Helena Act 1833 which contains St Helena’s Constitution under which the laws are made.

Scottish Civil Justice Council

Website of the Scottish Civil Justice Council (SCJC) the body set up in 2013 to replace the Court of Session Rules Council and the Sheriff Court Rules Council. The SCJC prepares draft rules of procedure for the civil courts and is responsible for keeping the civil justice system under review. The site has information on the membership of the Council and copies of minutes, papers and annual reports. There is also information and associated documentation on the various SCJC committees.
