Legal Resources Foundation

The Legal Resources Foundation (LRF) is a charitable trust concerned with the promotion of human rights and access to justice in Zimbabwe. Its website gives an overview of the foundation's activities in the areas of legal education, legal services and development of the justice system, together with details of its research and advocacy. The Resources section includes research reports, a platform to help people apply for legal aid, and pamphlets on areas of law of interest to the general public; it also has a small selection of case summaries. 

Lawyers for Human Rights

Website of Lawyers for Human Rights (LHR), a non-governmental organisation working to promote and strengthen human rights in South Africa. The site provides background information on the LHR and details of its work, which focuses on areas including penal reform; the rights of refugees, migrants and stateless people; land and housing; environmental rights; and gender equality. HLR research reports and other publications are available on the site, together with campaign information and news items.

General Council of the Bar of South Africa

Website of the General Council of the Bar of South Africa (GCBSA), the professional organisation for advocates in South Africa. Includes an overview of the South African legal system and information about careers and training. The 'Legal Practice Act' page provides a compilation of documents such as bar examination syllabuses and a proposal for practical vocational training.The Rules of Professional Ethics are also available, and there is a page of information about judicial nominees.

Corporate Counsel Association of South Africa

The Corporate Counsel Association of South Africa  (CCASA), formerly the Corporate Lawyers Association of South Africa, is a non-profit organisation formed in 1982 to promote the interests of company (in-house) lawyers. Its website provides background information about the role of the corporate lawyer. The CCASA code of ethics, disciplinary code and various policies are available on the site, along with details of events and courses held by the association. A selection of articles and other content is available to members.

Judge David Edward Oral History Project

This online oral history project, by Professor Don Smith of the Sturm College of Law, Denver University, looks at the career of Judge David Edward, a member of the Court of Justice of the European Communities from 1992 to 2004. The project website includes video interviews about his life and work, published papers, pictures and personal memories. There is background information about the project, together with biographical details and speeches. Interview transcripts can be downloaded and articles and papers written by David Edward are available from 1979 onwards.

The Middle Eastern Laws section of the AP Consulting website provides basic information and guidance on business law and procedures in Egypt, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. AP Consulting is a law firm specialising in Middle Eastern Law with offices in the Middle East and Washington, DC.

Supreme Court of Pakistan

Official website of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, with background information about the court and the judiciary, cause lists and a judgments database. Other materials available on the site include the Supreme Court Rules, an overview of the judicial system of Pakistan, and the Supreme Court Research Centre's Quarterly Case Update.

Basic Primary and Secondary Information Online Sources for the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the United States Central American Free Trade Agreement-Dominican Republic (CAFTA-DR) Research

Online guide to researching NAFTA and CAFTA-DR written by retired law librarian Francisco A. Avalos and Maureen Garmon, Faculty Services Librarian at Rogers College of Law, University of Arizona. Published on New York University's Globalex website, the guide covers the principal agreements, related agreements, NAFTA and CAFTA institutions, channels for the settlement of disputes and implementation acts. Links are given to other research guides, government websites, newsletters, journals and reports.

Botswana's legal system and legal research

Guide to the legal system of Botswana written by Lubabalo Booi, a librarian at the Republic of South Africa Parliament, and updated in 2021 by Charles Manga Fombad, Professor of Law at the University of Pretoria. The guide, which is on New York University's Globalex website, covers Botswana's history and sources of law, including the Constitution, customary law, common law, legislation and judicial precedent. There is information about the court system and the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government.
