Frequently-Cited Treaties and Other International Instruments

Online list of the most frequently cited treaties in law review articles,aimed at law students and compiled by Mary Rumsey, Foreign, Comparative and International Law Librarian at the University of Minnesota Law School. The treaties are grouped into eight categories: general international law; human rights law; environmental law; European Union law; trade and economic law; criminal law; and intellectual property law.

Government of the Sultanate of Oman

This page provides information on the government of Oman and forms part of the Ministry of Information's website. There is an overview of the Omani legal system and an outline of the roles of the Council of Oman (Majlis Oman), the State Council (Majlis al Dawla) and the Consultative Council (Majlis al-Shura). Information is given on the development of the legal system in Oman including the Basic Law of the State, the establishment of a Public Prosecutor's Office, the Ministry of Legal Affairs and the courts system.

Community Legal Information Centre

The Community Legal Information Centre (CLIC) was established by the China Information Technology and Law Centre of the University of Hong Kong. CLIC is an internet guide providing information and guidance to Hong Kong law. Subject sections provide basic information on various aspects of Hong Kong law including bankruptcy, employment, landlord and tenant, matrimonial matters and legal aid. There is also a section on the Hong Kong legal system which looks at sources of law, the courts structure, criminal and civil law and the legal profession.

Oklahoma Bar Association

Website of the Oklahoma Bar Association (OBA) a non-profit, membership organisation whose role is to promote understanding of the law to the public and to regulate the legal profession in the US state of Oklahoma. The site has details of officers and governors of the OBA and information about the association's outreach programmes, sections and committees. Information brochures on a range of legal topics can be freely downloaded from the site. These include buying a home, divorce, making a will, lawyers and legal fees, criminal law and a detailed senior citizens' handbook.

Majlis Ash Shura

Website of the Majlis Ash Shura (national Consultative Council) of Saudi Arabia. Members of the Majlis Ash Shura are appointed by the King and their role is to advise the him on issues of public interest. The site has basic facts about Saudi Arabia and the Shura Council including an organisation chart and profiles of members. Laws and internal rules and regulations relating to the Shura Council are also provided. The site can be viewed in English and Arabic.

State Bar of Arizona

Website of the State Bar of Arizona (Azbar) a membership organisation representing and regulating the legal profession practising in Arizona in the United States. As well as information about the organisation itself the site provides advice and information for lawyers and the public. There is a directory of Arizona lawyers, links to Arizona legal information and consumer brochures, aimed at the public, dealing with common legal problems. There is also advice on working with lawyers and details of lawyers who have been disciplined by the State Bar.

Uganda Human Rights Commission

The Uganda Human Rights Commission is an independent constitutional body which was established under the constitution to protect and promote human rights in Uganda. Its website provides information on the history, function and work of the commission. It includes access to all its annual reports from 2001 to date, some full-text reports and papers on human rights and human rights abuse in Uganda and full-text human rights legislation. The Commission's Tribunbal hears human rights cases and decisions can be downloaded from the site.

Kituo Cha Katiba: Eastern African Centre for Constitutional Development

Kituo Cha Katiba is a research centre based at Makerere University. It aims to promote research into constitutionalism, constitutional development, constitutional law in East African nations. Main countries covered are Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zanzibar. The site provides information on the aims and work of the body. It includes access to its annual state of constitutionalism reports from 1999 to date, plus reports from its surveys and fact finding missions in East Africa.

Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia

Website of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia. The site gives information on the structure and role of the Assembly and a history of the Assembly building. There is also an outline of the legislative procedure, profiles of members and details of the various standing working bodies who consider laws to be adopted by the Assembly. The Constitution and the rules and procedures of the Assembly are available in full text in English. The site also includes speeches of the President of Macedonia and details of delegations.

Recording Industry Association of America

The website of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) provides information about the organisation and its role in representing the US recording industry. One of its key goals is to help protect its members' legal rights in areas such as copyright enforcement and webcasting. Information on the site covers topical matters such as anti-piracy, copyright issues, music copyright notices and music and the internet. There is information about federal, state and international laws governing these areas.
