Law Reform Commission of Ireland

The mandate of the Irish Law Reform Commission is to formulate recommendations for law reform and ensure the law is kept under review. It also produces restatements of the law of Ireland and is responsible for the Legislation Directory (formerly the Chronological Table of the Statutes), which lists amendments to Irish legislation. The Commission's website provides full details of its workand makes available all its law reform consultation papers and reports, free of charge, in the Publications Library.

Freely accessible glossary of legal terminology made available on the home pages of Dublin-based barrister Kieron Wood. The glossary is displayed in HTML and arranged alphabetically. The first page includes a shortcut to each letter of the alphabet. Definitions are mostly brief and include terms such as Appellant, Codicil, Estoppel, Garnishee, Inter alia, Locus standi, Novation, Principal, Replevin, Testator, etc. The main pages provide further information about Kieron Wood, Irish law issues and a large collection of links.

Columbia Law School Research Guides

A series of International, Comparative and Foreign Law Web guides prepared by Silke Sahl, International, Comparative and Foreign Law Librarian at the Arthur W. Diamond Law Library, Columbia Law School, New York, USA. Each guide is presented in HTML format and suggests relevant legal research resources with bibliographic details, local library locations and website addresses. The guides cover topics such as: Treaty Research; the United Nations; Researching Public International law; and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.

Inter-American Bar Association

Web pages describing the aims and functions of the Inter-American Bar Association (IABA). The Association was founded in 1940 by lawyers and jurists representing 17 nations and 44 professional organisations, aiming to "promote the rule of law and protect the democratic institutions in the Americas." The site sets out the IABA's objectives, purposes and organisational structure with notes on membership procedures. Information is provided on events and conferences and a copy of the most recent newsletter can be downloaded in PDF. A set of related law links is also available.

Canadian Bar Association

Official website of the Canadian Bar Association, the professional organisation for all members of the legal profession in Canada. The site gives information about the CBA structure, meetings, annual conference and current initiatives. A list of interest groups represents the Association's involvement in a full range of legal subject areas. A list of Canadian Provinces links to separate site sections for the Provincial and Territorial branches of the CBA. In addition the site features a series of news headlines, with links to full-text news releases, papers and reports.

Westminster Law Library, University of Denver, Research Resources

An extensive collection of finding aids, subject guides and tutorials made freely available on the internet by Westminster Law Library, University of Denver, Colorado. The materials, prepared by the library staff, are mostly presented in PDF format. Some videos are also available and interactive formats are to be introduced. A wide range of legal topics is covered, including international law, US Federal law and Colorado State law.

Ombudsman Association

The Ombudsman Association is a membership organisation for ombudsmen from the UK, Ireland, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and Britain's overseas territories. The website includes lists of the voting and associate members of the Association. They cover a wide range of topics such as Energy, Housing, Legal Services, Prisons and Probation, and Parliamentary Standards. Entries give a brief note of responsibilities with contact addresses, phone and fax numbers, and email and website addresses.
