United States Military Commissions: A Quick Guide to Available Resources

Online resource guide to United States military commissions (a form of military tribunal) compiled by Stephen Young who is a reference librarian at the Kathryn J. DuFour Law Library at the Catholic University of America. The guide provides links and references to primary and secondary materials relating to US military commissions and includes an introduction explaining what military commissions and tribunals are. There is a selection of relevant journal articles and an annotated list of links to Internet sites and finding tools.

Society of Maritime Arbitrators

Website of the Society of Maritime Arbitrators (SMA) an organisation based in the United States whose aim is to promote alternate dispute resolution (ADR) in the maritime industry. The site provides access to SMA rules, profiles of members and its code of ethics. There is a copy of the United States Federal Arbitration Act and a guide to maritime arbitration in New York. The SMA's newsletter is made available in full-text online in HTML or PDF format. This contains legal news and summaries of recent decisions and awards.

Center for Constitutional Rights

The Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) was established in 1966. It is a leading independent US body which campaigns and litigates for the protection of US civil liberties and international human rights. Its website provides information on the aims of the organisation and its campaigns. It includes access to press releases, case notes, campaign materials and full-text pamphlets and reports.

NHGRI Policy and Legislation Database

This part of the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) website provides free access to United States legal materials relating to genetic research. The database includes federal and state laws and statutes, federal legislative materials and federal administrative and executive materials. Topics covered include patenting, discrimination, genetic testing and counselling and privacy of genetic information. Content can be searched for by type, topic or source. There is also a clickable map which can be used to select state materials.

Neurotrauma Law Nexus

The Neurolaw website is hosted by United States law firm Fick and Petty who specialise in traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury litigation. The site is aimed at survivors and families affected by these issues. Background and medical information about traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury is given covering morbidity and mortality, costs, causes, prevention and living with these conditions. There is also information on the various causes of neurotrauma including coma injuries, electrical injury, toxic exposure, cranial nerve injury and multiple sclerosis.

DMC's Case Notes

Website produced by David Martin-Clark who is a Shipping, Transport and Insurance Consultant. The site provides a selection of case notes covering recent shipping and insurance cases. Case notes include citations, keywords and summaries. Shipping cases are further sub-divided by topics such as admiralty, arbitration and carriage of goods. New case notes can be emailed if you register on the site. There are also biographical details relating to David Martin-Clark and information on other contributors.

Virginia Journal of Law and Technology

Website of the Virginia Journal of Law and Technology (VJOLT) an electronic legal journal produced by students at the University of Virginia School of Law. VJOLT contains feature articles focused on the "issues arising from the intersection of law and technology". Issues are available back to 1997 with full-text articles presented in PDF format and abstracts provided in HTML. Articles can be browsed by date or topic including biotechnology, comparative law, emerging technologies, internet, privacy, telecommunications and patent law.

William S. Hein

Website of US legal publisher Hein whose products and services include HeinOnLine a subscription database containing legal periodicals, U.S. Reports and the U.S. Federal Register. Hein also publish legal texts, microform publications and distribute legal periodicals. The site has information about the history of the company and its mission statement. There is a catalogue of book and journal titles published by Hein and other legal publishers which can be browsed by subject or searched by author, title or ISBN.

HeinOnline

HeinOnline is a subscription database produced by U.S. legal publisher William S. Hein in collaboration with Cornell Information Technologies and the Cornell University Law Library. The database includes an extensive library of image-based full-text legal publications including out-of-print and historical legal research materials. Materials are grouped into a range of libraries including the Law Journal Library, US Supreme Court Library, English Reports, Treaties and Agreements Library, Legal Classics and the US Presidential Collection.
