Legislation.gov.uk website is hosted by the National Archives on behalf of the UK Government. It is a free official site providing all legislation from 1988 onwards and most legislation prior to 1988 (apart from secondary legislation). N.B. Many revised versions of acts are offered, but these are often not up-to-date. The content can be browsed by type (e.g. UK Public General Acts, Scottish Statutory Instruments), or searched by title, year, type or number. Users can go directly to sections for United Kingdom, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland legislation.

Expert Witness Website

The Expert Witness website provides a searchable online directory of experts and organisations. The directory covers England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, Australia, India and South East Asia. Full entries provide information about the individual or organisation and include contact details. The directory can be searched using a simple keyword or advanced search option.

Scots Law Student Zone

A resource site containing internet links and guidance information aimed at law students in Scotland. The Zone's academic links include Law Schools in Scotland, information about the Diploma in Legal Practice and access to the site's online journal, "Scots Law Student Journal" publishing student essays and dissertations. A section of advice and tips presents guidance notes on gaining work experience, getting a traineeship and employment opportunities after studying law.

Scottish Law Online

A resource service comprising a series of complementary websites, each dedicated to Scots Law and Scottish legal issues. The component elements are: Scots Law Online Resource Centre, A-Z of the Law of Scotland, Scots Law Student Zone, Scottish Law Firm Directory, Scots Law Student Journal and the Corporate Zone providing links to company and business information. The Scots Law Online Resource Centre is a legal portal providing links to Courts, legislation, governmental sources, professional bodies, societies and universities.

Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service is a Department of the Scottish Executive. It the Scottish department responsible for the prosecution of crime, the investigation of sudden or suspicious deaths, and the investigation of complaints against the police. The site outlines the work of the Service and an interactive map of Scotland provides details of the network of Regional Procurator Fiscal offices supporting each Sheriff Court district. Information is provided for crime victims and witnesses and details are provided about the work of the Victim Information and Advice Service.

Scottish Sheriff Court Judgments

A BAILII database containing full-text civil and criminal opinions of the Scottish Sheriff Courts from 1998 onwards. The information has been made available by the Scottish Courts. Cases can be browsed alphabetically by party name or chronologically by year or searched using BAILII's comprehensive search facility. The British and Irish Legal Information Institute (BAILII) is a collaborative service aiming to provide public access to primary legal materials for the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.

Scottish Prison Service

Official website providing general information about the organisation and operation of the Scottish Prison Service. Details are provided on the structure of the service with links to all the Scottish prisons. The site lists research material published by the Research and Development Branch of the Scottish Prison Service, including some summaries of Occasional Papers. The full-text of the SPS annual report and accounts is also available in HTML format. The site includes news, site search facility and links to other relevant resources on the internet.

Scottish Legal Aid Board

The Scottish Legal Aid Board is a non-departmental public body responsible for managing legal aid in Scotland. Its website presents information for the public and information for solicitors and other advisory services. For solicitors and advisors, it provides an online facility for legal aid applications, handbooks, updates, forms and other materials. For the public, there is advice and guidance about getting legal aid and finding a solicitor, including a directory of legal aid practitioners.

British and Irish Legal Information Institute

The British and Irish Legal Information Institute (BAILII) provides free access to legislation, cases, law reform reports and other legal materials from the United Kingdom, Jersey, Ireland, the European Court of Human Rights, the European Court of Justice and the EU's General Court. The cases are from the higher courts and tribunals; most date from the last two decades or so, but BAILII also provides a collection called Leading Case Law by Subject, and many of these cases are much older. Materials may be browsed by jurisdiction, title and year.

Centre for Law and Society

The Centre for Law and Society is based at the Faculty of Law, University of Edinburgh. Established in 1983, it researches criminology and legal theory. The website gives details of the Centre's publications, seminars and current areas of research. There is also information about postgraduate courses, conferences and the Edinburgh Study of Youth Transitions and Crime Project.
