Northern Ireland Judicial Appointments Commission

Website of the Northern Ireland Judicial Appointments Commission (NIJAC), an independent public body, established in 2005. NIJAC recommends judicial appointments in Northern Ireland up to the level of High Court judge. The site provides details of the Commissioners and their role, guidance on how judicial appointments are made and the steps in the process. The publications section gives access to NIJAC’s policies and a guide to judicial careers in Northern Ireland.

Landmark Judicial Legislation

A collection of key acts establishing and developing the structure of the judiciary and the authority of the Federal Courts in the United States of America. The site has been compiled by the Federal Judicial History Office at the Federal Judicial Center in Washington DC. A browse screen presents a timeline listing of the legislative measures with links to the relevant documents made freely available in HTML format. Materials include article III from the US Constitution and 21 statutes of historical significance. The online texts are taken as published from United States Statutes at Large.

Texas Courts Online

Official website offering free access to a range of judicial and court materials and relevant internet links for the US State of Texas. There is information and documentation published about and by state courts, agencies and committees covering the structure and jurisdiction of the courts, information on Texas judges and statistics. There is a directory of all courts in the state of Texas. Links are given to other Texas legal sites, related bodies and to searchable collections of cases for the Texas county and appellate courts.

International Association of Prosecutors

The website of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) is an online information resource that aims to stimulate international communication and cooperation amongst prosecutors. The Association, established in 1995, is non-governmental and non-political, and aims to lead the way in setting standards in the administration of criminal justice. The site includes information about the Association and its members. A section of the site gives the Association's latest annual report and a variety of documentation including minutes of meetings, standards and guidelines.

Criminal Justice Matters

Criminal Justice Matters is a journal which aims to provide "information and informed opinion" on topical issues of interest relating to criminal justice. The journal is produced quarterly by ISTD: The Centre for Crime and Justice Studies, and published by Routledge. The Centre is a registered charity, which claims to be a non-partisan, non-campaigning body. This section is part of the Centre's site which is hosted on the King's College London server. Each issue explores a single theme in the field of criminology.

Ecole Nationale de la Magistrature

The Ecole Nationale de la Magistrature (ENM) is the official training and examining body for judges and prosecutors in France. It comes under the aegis of the French Ministry of Justice. The site publishes the texts of legislation pertaining to the setting up and administration of the Ecole. The list of initial and in-service training programmes is published, with details of the preparation and training cycles for candidates wishing to take one of the Ecole's "concours" (competitions). Bibliographies on some aspects of the judicial system are available.

Centro de Estudos Judiciários

The Portuguese Centro de Estudos Judiciários was set up under the auspices of the Portuguese Ministry of Justice to train judges and public prosecutors and to carry out research on judicial matters. Information about the Centre's constitution and work are provided, as well as details of publications, including the contents pages of its journal, the Revista do CEJ. Some publications are available in full, notably its studies and annual report. The site is mainly in Portuguese, but basic information about the Centre is available in English.

Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunals Service

Official website for the Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunals Service, outlining the court structure in Northern Ireland and providing information on services including court lists, fees, information on jury service and support for victims and witnesses. Access is provided to a range of publications relevant to the Northern Ireland Court Service including legislation, press releases, policy documents and targets and performance data. Judgements from the Northern Ireland courts are available to download from the site in full text and can be searched or browsed back to 1999.
