A brief guide to the European Union and its legislative processes

Full text guide to the European Union written by the UK Financial Services Authority in June 2011 and made freely available on their website. The guide gives an introduction to the EU and its institutions, to European legislation and case law and to financial regulation in Europe. A glossary of terms and acronyms is also provided. Pinnacle St Lucia

Pinnacle St Lucia is the brand name of the St Lucia Government’s International Financial and World Investment Centre. Its website makes available St Lucia acts and regulations relating to international banking, companies, insurance, funds, trusts, money laundering and related areas.

Financial Conduct Authority

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) regulates financial services in the UK; it is one of two successors to the Financial Services Authority (the other being the Prudential Regulation Authority). The FCA website has information and guidance for consumers and financial services firms. There is a link to the FCA Handbook, which sets out the obligations of regulated firms. The News section includes FCA consultation papers, discussion papers, policy statements and other publications.

Financial Ombudsman

The Financial Ombudsman Service oversees the UK financial industry and resolves individual complaints against specific organisations. It covers financial services such as insurance, mortgages, investments and credit. Its website provides information for consumers and businesses, together with a database of the Ombudsman's decisions (or 'determinations') from April 2012 onwards.

Rahoitustarkastus (Financial Supervision)

The Finnish Financial Supervision Authority (FSA) "supervises financial markets and participants" in Finland. The FSA works in connection with the Bank of Finland, but is independent and takes its mandate from the Act on FSA of 1993 (included in an English-language version). The site presents various documents pertaining to the FSA's strategy, procedure, objectives and history. News, updates, annual reports and some articles are presented, and longer documents are in PDF.

International Organization of Securities Commissions

Website of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), which oversees the supervision of financial services industries around the world. The site describes the structure of the organization and its work and makes available IOSCO policy documents, press releases, speeches, annual reports and other materials. It also provides a directory of national authorities which are members of IOSCO.

Gibraltar Financial Services Commission

Official website of the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission, which reviews the operation of Gibraltar's legislation and the effectiveness of financial services supervision. The site presents information about the Commission and its work, in press releases, the annual review and newsletters. Additional general guidance information about the jurisdiction of Gibraltar, Financial Services, Banking Market, Insurance Market, Investment Services Market and Trusts and Companies is also available.

Eesti Pank: the Bank of Estonia

The Bank of Estonia has a remit to maintain the value of the Estonian currency (the Kroon) and to support and improve the Estonian banking and financial system. The site and its contents are available in Estonian and English and presents general information on the Bank, its monetary policies, mission, and press releases, and the Estonian banking system. Many statistical indicators and reports are included, on banking, investment and the economy. The legislation section includes the full-text of Estonian laws, decrees and regulations on banking and finance, from the 1990s.
