Indigenous and Tribal Peoples

This section of the International Labour Organization (ILO) website deals with the employment rights of indigenous and tribal peoples. There is background information on the ILOãs work with indigenous and tribal peoples and details of ILO projects designed to provide support and assistance to these people and to governments. Full text copies of international legal instruments promoting the rights of indigenous and tribal peoples are provided on the site along with their ratifications and an account of the effects these conventions have had.

Diversity and Fairness in the Jury System

Report on Diversity and Fairness in the Jury System written by Cheryl Thomas with Nigel Balmer and published by the Research Unit of the UK Ministry of Justice in June 2007. The report presents findings from the Jury Diversity Project looking at under representation of ethnic minorities on juries and the effect of ethnicity on jury decision making. There are chapters in the report dealing with the following issues: juror summoning; jurors who serve and do not serve; jurors at court and jury decision making.

Justice Education Society

The Justice Education Society (JES) of British Columbia, Canada, conducts research, develops digital tools, gives training and provides information with the aim of strengthening justice systems and improving access to justice around the world. The JES website has information about the Society and its ongoing and completed projects.

Tribal Law Journal

Tribal Law Journal is a publication of the University of New Mexico law school. Established in 1998, it covers the law of indigenous peoples all around the world, but the main focus is Native American tribal law. The entire series is available in the university's online repository, together with a Tribal Courts Handbook for New Mexico, a blog about tribal law and profiles of the laws of ten indigenous nations.

Waitangi Tribunal

Official website of the Waitangi Tribunal, the permanent commission of inquiry established under New Zealand's Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975. The Tribunal hears claims relating to breaches of the treaty. The website provides the reports of the Tribunal on claims under the act and the text of the treaty in English and Maori. It also gives procedural guidance and makes available a collection of research reports.
