The Housing Ombudsman Service provides an independent service for dealing with complaints made against landlords and housing agents in England, including complaints against social landlords and housing associations. Its website provides information on the work of the Ombudsman and guidance on making a complaint. It also has a link to a selection of case digests and a register of social landlords in England.

Ministry of Justice: Procedure Rules

Collection of procedure rules for different types of litigation in England and Wales, provided by the UK Ministry of Justice. Consists of the Civil Procedure Rules, Criminal Procedure Rules, Family Procedure Rules and other rules that apply to the magistrates courts and Crown Court. Practice directions, court forms and court guides are also available.  

English Law

Online research guide covering the English legal system and legal materials, by Goodson Law Library at Duke University in the United States. The guide is intended for American law students and those seeking an overview of English legal publications in print and online formats. 

Property Bar Association

Web pages for the professional association of barristers in England and Wales specialising in property law and property-related work. The site sets out the Association's objectives, presents a programme of events, meetings and seminars and publishes papers derived from past events. An alphabetical list of members is presented in PDF. The text of the Association's constitution is also published on the site in HTML format.

Child and Family Court Advisory and Support Services for England and Wales

Official website for the Child and Family Court Advisory and Support Services for England and Wales. CAFCASS acts as a central co-ordinating body for groups of practitioners providing advice to courts on issues of child and family welfare. CAFCASS was established by the UK Criminal Justice and Courts Services Act 2000 as a non-departmental public body answering to the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families.

LawWorks

Website of LawWorks, an independent charitable association of solicitors in England and Wales dedicated to pro bono (free) legal advice: 'LawWorks' is the operating name of the Solicitors' Pro Bono Group (SPBG). The site describes the background, role and purpose of the organisation and gives details of LawWorks' projects. These include clinics providing free legal advice sessions, mediation services and free legal services aimed at the voluntary sector.

Bar Pro Bono Unit

Website for the Bar Pro Bono Unit, which was established to provide free legal advice and representation to those who need it. The Unit helps to put solicitors, advice agencies and members of the public in touch with barristers volunteering to give free advice, client conferences and representation in cases meeting the Unit's criteria for support. The website describes the aims and work of the Unit, with information on the sort of help provided to individuals, community groups and charities.

Notaries Society

Website of the Notaries Society, the professional body founded in 1882 to represent notaries practising in England and Wales, outside London. The site provides information for members of the profession and the general public on the role of the notary and details of how to qualify. A contact directory assists with finding a notary. Parts of the site are restricted to members only.

England and Wales Court of Appeal (Civil Division) Decisions

A BAILII (British and Irish Legal Information Institute) database containing decisions of the Civil Division of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales. Most of the cases are from the 1990s onwards, but selected earlier decisions back to 1883 are also available. Cases are listed by party name and year, and there is a search facility. BAILII is a collaborative service providing free access to primary legal materials for the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.
