American Society of Criminology

The American Society of Criminology is an international organisation which promotes research and education in all areas of criminal justice. It has divisions focusing on corrections and sentencing; critical criminology; experimental criminology; international criminology; people of color and crime; and women and crime. The website describes the work of the Society and provides information about its annual meeting. The Publications page includes a link to criminology abstracts.

Office for the Victims of Crime

Website of the US Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), the official body responsible for funding state compensation schemes for crime victims, supporting them and promoting their rights and contributing to the development of policy. It provides a large amount of information for victims, professionals who work with them and those carrying out research in the area. The site explains the organisation and work of the OVC and makes available its reports to Congress (1996 onwards). There is detailed guidance about applying for funding and organising events.

Criminal Defense Resource Center

The State Appellate Defender Office (SADO) in Michigan, US, represents convicted indigent felons on appeal in the State. The website offers many resources for criminal attorneys, some freely available, some reserved for paying users. The free items include summaries - and some full reports - of recent criminal court decisions in Michigan and the US Supreme Court; court rules; guidance and information for the public the criminal justice system in Michigan; and links to other relevant websites.

Scottish Prison Service

Official website providing general information about the organisation and operation of the Scottish Prison Service. Details are provided on the structure of the service with links to all the Scottish prisons. The site lists research material published by the Research and Development Branch of the Scottish Prison Service, including some summaries of Occasional Papers. The full-text of the SPS annual report and accounts is also available in HTML format. The site includes news, site search facility and links to other relevant resources on the internet.

Nathanson Centre on Transnational Human Rights, Crime and Security

Website for a research centre established by Osgoode Hall Law School (York University, Ontario, Canada) and "focusing on three thematic pillars ¹ human rights, crime and security". The site offers information about the centre's research programme and publications supported by an online newsletter, provides access to an Organized Crime and Corruption Bibliographic Database, and publishes an HTML version of "Organized Crime in North America - a Bibliography" compiled by Stephen Schneider.

International Centre for Criminal Law Reform and Criminal Justice Policy

The International Centre for Criminal Law Reform and Criminal Justice Policy is an independent non-profit institute, officially affilated with the United Nations and based at the Faculty of Law, University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. The website contains publications, occasional papers and reports which can be ordered online or downloaded in PDF. The site gives details of the following programmes conducted by the Centre: Corrections Programme; China Programme; Transnational Organised Crime; UN Congress on Crime and International Criminal Court.

National Archive of Criminal Justice Data

The National Archive of Criminal Justice Data (NACJD) is a branch of the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) at the University of Michigan. NACJD acquires, archives, processes, and provides access to computer-readable criminal justice data collections for research and instruction. The NACJD website, hosted and developed by the University of Michigan, provides downloadable access to over 550 criminal justice data collections free of charge. The data relates to penal law and criminal justice at US Federal and State levels.

Centre for Criminological Research and Probation Studies Unit, University of Oxford

Web pages for the University of Oxford's Centre for Criminological Research and Probation Studies Unit. The site describes the history, work and resources of the Centre and Unit which involves empirical research into current problems of criminal and penal policy in the UK. The site outlines the courses, seminars, publications and research projects undertaken by the Centre. Information about the Centre's Library, contact details for staff members and information on job vacancies are also given. Additionally a list of links to other relevant sites is provided.

Howard Journal of Criminal Justice, The

The Howard Journal of Criminal Justice is published by Wiley (formerly by Blackwells) and is concerned with "all major aspects of the criminal justice process, penal policy and crime prevention". It is an interdisciplinary journal "combining articles with comments and reviews, providing a thorough coverage of both the theory and practice of criminal justice and the study of crime and criminals. Each issue includes a Penal Policy File summarising the latest developments in criminal justice policy."

Centre for Crime and Justice Studies (CCJS)

The Centre is "an independent charity at King's College London that informs and educates about all aspects of crime and the criminal justice system". CCJS publishes the 'British Journal of Criminology' and produces a quarterly magazine, 'Criminal Justice Matters' .The site provides online access to the centre's publications and a list of archived publications. There is an events diary listing forthcoming conferences, seminars and meetings on criminal justice; and a news section giving access to press releases, articles, and consultation responses.
