American Arbitration Association

Founded in 1926 as a not-for-profit, public service organization, the American Arbitration Association is dedicated to the resolution of disputes through the use of mediation, arbitration, negotiation, elections and other voluntary dispute resolution methodologies. This site gives information about the Association, its activities, members and information about ADR. There are forms to download and an online library of guides, FAQs and reports on ADR and its use in different sectors including construction, insurance, employment and state based dispute resolution.

Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide

The Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide (ELAW) was founded in 1989 by lawyers who wanted to collaborate to protect the environment. The site describes the work of the Alliance. News items and articles about ELAW campaigns are also provided. The Alliance's quarterly journal, ELAW Advocate, is available under "What We Do" (2000 onwards). The Resources page provides access to cases, laws and other materials for a range of geographical regions, covering environmental topics such as pollution, biodiversity, conservation, economics, mining, waste, water and wildlife.

A comprehensive US-centred site indexing and linking to online legal resources aimed at legal professionals and the public. The service is freely available on the internet. Legal information and links to resources for the public are arranged under the following broad headings: accidents and injuries; bankruptcy and debt; car accidents; civil rights; criminal law; dangerous products; family law; employee's rights; estate planning and probate; immigration law; intellectual property; real estate; small businesses and taxation. Information is broken down into further sub categories.

Child Welfare Information Gateway

Child Welfare Information Gateway is a service of the Children's Bureau, part of Administration for Children and Families, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It is a national resource for professionals in the United States seeking information on adoption, child welfare and child abuse and neglect. It includes online publications and fact sheets, summaries of state statutes, clearinghouse catalogue, specialised services, online databases and directories, and related sites.

Project on Government Secrecy

The Project on Government Secrecy has been set up by the Federation of American Scientists to challenge excessive government secrecy and to promote public oversight and Freedom of Information in the USA. The site provides details of the project and campaign successes. There is access to a government secrecy blog, Bush administration secrecy blog, declassification strategies, delcassified US government documents and other FOIA resources.

Hieros Gamos

Hieros Gamos is a comprehensive legal site providing access to United States law and to legal and government resources in 230 countries. There are directories of law firms worldwide and to many other US based legal professionals including experts and court reporters. Resources are organised thematically including sections dealing with legal careers, students, professional organisations, legal publications and the practice of law. The Law Business Center has links to information resources covering e-commerce, business finance and starting a business.

Organization of American States

The Organization for American States (OAS) is a regional forum for dialogue and cooperation on political, economic and social issues in the Americas. In addition to general information on its membership and programmes, the website contains the full-text of a number of OAS documents including its charter, annual report, conventions, treaties, all resolutions from the General Assembly and Permanent Council from 1994 onwards, and press releases from 1995 onwards. Also included are the transcripts of key speeches made by the Secretary General and the Assistant Secretary General since 1995.

Environmental Treaties and Resource Indicators

Environmental Treaties and Resource Indicators (ENTRI) is an online search service that provides access to environmental treaties and the national resource indicators relevant to those treaties. The service is provided by the Consortium for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN). Subject areas covered include soil quality/conservation, water, sea, marine resources, air, plants, forests, animals, hazardous substances, land use, renewable energy and natural resources.

SICE Foreign Trade Information System

The Foreign Trade Information System (Sistema de Informacion al Comercio Exterior, or SICE) is produced by the Organization of American States (OAS) as a central source of information about trade policy in the region. The SICE website provides full-text trade agreements, national legislation on trade-related matters, a glossary of trade terms and other information. The site is in English and Spanish.
