Courts of New Zealand

Official website of Courts of New Zealand, the body responsible for court administration in New Zealand. Includes a database of selected higher court judgments, called Judicial Decisions of Public Interest and mostly consisting of criminal cases and other judgments of public interest. The site also has information about the role, structure and history of the courts and explains the functions of the Judicial Committees and the Rules Committee. There is also information about the judiciary. Sections covering the individual courts provide legislation, daily lists and case summaries.

New Zealand legislation

New Zealand's legislation website, provided by the Parliamentary Counsel Office (PCO). The site makes available public, local and private acts, secondary legislation, bills and supplementary order papers. Since January 2014, authentic online versions of legislation have been available, including official updated texts of principal legislation (as against amending legislation) enacted or made since 1931, as well as other point-in-time versions. The site also has old provincial acts and imperial legislation. A glossary of legislative and other terminology is provided.

Takeovers Panel

Official website of the New Zealand Takeovers Panel, the body responsible for enforcing the Takeovers Code and keeping the law on takeovers under review. The Panel was established by the Takeovers Act 1993. The website provides the text of the Takeovers Code along with related legislation and historical amendments. Decisions and exemption notices issued by the Panel since 2001 are also available. Other materials provided include annual reports, a monthly newsletter and a collection of articles and speeches relating to the Takeovers Act and Code.

Employment Court of New Zealand

Official website of the New Zealand Employment Court which has jurisdiction over all matters relating to employment disputes. The site provides information on the history, role and structure of the court and gives an outline of the key pieces of legislation that resulted in the setting up of the Court. There is guidance on taking a case to the Employment Court including a link to the full text of the Employment Court Regulations 2000. All the related forms are available to download. Full text judgements are available from 2006 onwards and can be downloaded in PDF.

Australian and New Zealand Law and History Society

The New Zealand Law and History Society (ANZLHS) is a scholarly society based in New South Wales, Australia. Membership of ANZLHS is drawn from historians, lawyers and academics sharing an interest in the connections between law and history. The site has joining information and details of conferences and competitions. There is also information about the society's journal, law&history, including contents lists, and a link to the discontinued title, Australian and New Zealand Law & History E-journal (on Austlii). 

Youth Court of New Zealand

Website of the New Zealand Youth Court, describing the work of the court and the nature of its proceedings. Guidance aimed at young people, families and victims is provided. There are links to summaries of decisions from 1998 to 2016 and to full (anonymised) decisions from 2016 onwards (both collections are on the New Zealand District Court website, which in turn has a link to archived summaries going back to 1988).

New Zealand Gazette

Website of the New Zealand Gazette, the official government newspaper and journal of constitutional record. The Gazette publishes official notices relating to business proceedings, bankruptcies, transfers of land and other matters, as well as notices from government departments and the New Zealand Parliament. It is available online to browse or search from 1993 onwards; in October 2014 the online edition replaced the print edition. The site also provides annual cumulative indexes to the Gazette from 2000 to 2014.

Immigration & Protection Tribunal

This New Zealand tribunal has replaced the Residence Review Board, the Refugee Status Appeals Authority, the Removal Review Authority and the Deportation Review Tribunal. Its web page, part of the New Zealand Ministry of Justice's website, provides the decisions of the Tribunal and its predecessors, together with guidance, legislation, practice notes, annual reports and statistics.

Waitangi Tribunal

Official website of the Waitangi Tribunal, the permanent commission of inquiry established under New Zealand's Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975. The Tribunal hears claims relating to breaches of the treaty. The website provides the reports of the Tribunal on claims under the act and the text of the treaty in English and Maori. It also gives procedural guidance and makes available a collection of research reports.
